Build & Quality are Perfection
|
Time owned: 3 to 6 months

I run 99% CW, so a Great key is priority with me. I received my ZN-9A about 3 months ago, and just getting to cheer about it now. I also have Schurr, Begali, Kent, Vibroplex, Brown Bros, Bencher, and a multitude of other keys and paddles, so "I know of what I speak."
Actually I can't really add much that hasn't already been said about N3ZN keys, so I'll just say if you want Silky Smooth action, Precision adjustment, Quality workmanship and materials, and "Beauty to the eye" to boot, this might be what you're looking for. Of all the keys I own and have used, the ZN-9A is on top of the heap. It radiates Quality & Perfection like all N3ZN keys do. I love it!
Hey, there is a 30 day money back guarantee. Try one. I don't think you'll be disappointed..

Phenomenal

I've been using a Vibroplex paddle for 20 years and thought it was just fine. Treated myself to the ZN-9A mainly just because it looked so cool, but boy has it made CW more fun. My sending is much better, less thinking required to avoid errors. Plus it does look very cool...

Excellent

My N3ZN key arrived sooner than expected and it was a pleasure to correspond with Tony via email.
The simplicity of design is excellent and not having to use a screwdriver to adjust contact spacings is great. It's a delight to use and no doubt will still be around when I'm gone.

Looks: elegant, solid and compact. I like the small footprint; less clutter on my desk. Design: it would be hard to think of a more basic design of a magnetic paddle. Not a screw too many, not a gram of material too much. Simplicity is a virtue. Engineering: Superb. There is no movement whatsoever in the contact and magnet screws. The thread of these screws is the finest I have ever seen. Special praise for the finger pieces. Short, light-weight and ‘crisp’. The slightly pointed tops and the edges that have been not been bevelled too much give instant feedback to your fingers. Operation: The contact spacing can be set very tight indeed. Once set, the spacing stays. The movement of the arms is the lightest I have ever experienced in any paddle. This is perhaps the most impressive feature of this fine piece of work.

Outstanding Paddle!

I'e been a ham for over 45 years and operate about 99% CW. I've been using straight keys, bugs and various iambic paddles. For the past 15 years I've been using homebrew, Bencher and Palm Radio paddles.
I decided on the ZN-9A for it's reputation for precision and the fact that it has a lower fingerpiece height.
When I received serial number 13, I really loved the small size, heavy weight and precise settings for keying force and return force. The look and feel are really superb.
The great thing about the adjustments is that no tools are required and the way that they stay put.
Tony was a delight to work with and I got my paddle in far less than his quoted delivery.
I think that this paddle will help me to push my sending ability to a much higher level. Please read Chuck Adams', K7QO's article for a great tutorial on setting and sending with your paddle.
I would like to thank Tony for a grest product at a very reasonable price level.

Great stuff

Ok I wrote a review already and it vanished.
I have only had my paddles a few days. I'm just a casual operator and don't have anything extravagant to compare them to, as some of the other reviewers have. I've only owned one other set of paddles (the cheap MFJ set, which broke easily). My ZN-9A was easy to adjust to my liking and I like the weight of it, and it's looks.
It arrived very well packed, and got here quickly once it was completed and paid for. I think Tony's paddles are a good deal for anyone who is in the market for a high-quality paddle that will last, work well and look nice at your setup.

Very Precise!

I met Tony at Dayton this year displaying his keys from the back of his car. I had spent quite a bit of time at the Bengali booth and really liked the Sculpture key ($550.00). I didn't really want to drop that much on a key but I thought they were nice. On Saturday as I was browsing the flea market area, I found Tony and took a look at all his keys he brought with him. I found I liked his keys just as well as the Bengali's. I was a bit disappointed that he didn't have any to take home with me but he said he would honor the Dayton prices for a week. I bought the ZN-9A and I have to say I like it better than the Bengali Sculpture I admired for half a day at Dayton. It is solid as a rock and I had to clean up my Bencher hand as it is extreamly precise. I was also surprised at how small the key is. Tony makes QRP portable keys that are smaller than this one, But this would be very easy to take along on a trip. It weighs around 3 pounds so it doesn't slide at all on the desk. It also comes with the wires installed and ready to plug in and operate. Lets face it, Good keys are expensive and Tony makes great keys and the price was very resonable. You would get close to getting two N3ZN keys for the cost of one Bengali. This will not be my last N3ZN as he has several others I am interested in. You will not be disappointed in any of these keys. They are top notch! Thanks Tony for this work of art!

Fits like a glove

Last year I converted from a straight key to a iambic key. That was an experience many ears
wish they had not heard on the air... But, as
time goes by, one's fist improves. And then,
there is the ZN-9A!! Whoa, what a difference
this key makes - - Tony has the golden touch!
You have to own one of his keys to appreciate
the craftmanship involved. "I" know where my
next key will come from...

Most Excellent

I've only had this key a week but man what a difference. This thing is sweet and smooth as butter and the finger piece height is just right for me. I like a light touch so when I placed my order I asked Tony to set it up for a very light touch and very tight clearance on the contacts. It arrived just that way and was a thrill to work right out of the box. I have repeatedly fiddled and diddled with my Bencher and Vibroplex to get them just the way I wanted but there was always something just not quite right. In addition to that, the settings seem to move when tightening the locking devices.
Another amazing thing about the ZN keys, you get excellent quality, a beautiful piece of equipment and for a price that is unbelievable. You can pay an awful lot more for keys but I can't understand why you would do so. Only problem I have now is that since my grandson has tried it out he is not happy with the Bencher and Vibroplex I offered him. hi

I am a new ham. I am learning cw and was very fortunate to have come across Tony's paddles on eham.
I have looked at a number of keys that are out there including Bencher,Kent, etc. The zn-9a is by far the best. It has a nice feel and I didn't have to adjust it at all from out of the box. It came very well packed. The workmanship is excellent. Tony is obviously a very good cw himself and has produced a fine instrument and an artwork.
It's been a pleasure in dealing with Tony.
I'll probably get a second one from Tony in the near future.
Thanks Tony for a fantastic key.
