Collins S-Line Repairs  Time owned: 0 to 3 months
David Knepper/W3CRA is well deserving of great review. Having found a complete S-line setup that was in need of someone who really knows this equipment I was reffered to Dave for help. I cannot say enough about Dave. He truely likes to help folks get this old Collins equipment up and running. I called him reapeatedly asking questions before I even sent my KWM2 off to him.
I figured I would do most of the clean up myself and have the expert tune it back to factory specs. What a great help and always willing to help out on the phone too.I will also add Dave does repairs at a very reasonable charge. If you are looking to revive Collins radio equipment Dave Knepper should be your first call. He can point you in the right direction of parts for do it yourselfers. Wonderful service.

Collins repair expert  Time owned: months
Dave repaired the tuning mechanism of my 75S3B repaired an audio problem I thought that I had to live with. He perfectly aligned the radio after cleaning and lubricating all critical points. He also corrected a mechanical problem in the ganged preselection rack. He is a pleasure to talk to and my radio was shipped back to me in its best condition ever. All this, and reasonable prices. Dave is great!

KWM-2 Repair by Dave Knepper W3CRA Collins Radio Assoc.  Time owned: 3 to 6 months
Last Month (October 2008) David Knepper repaired my KWM-2. I bought this KWM-2 on ebay, and it was DOA. It appeared that someone else had worked on it and had just given up....leaving a mess inside for someone else to deal with.
I had seen reviews of Dave on eham....so I decided to give him a try. Good Move on my part. He cleaned up and repaired the shoddy previous work....and even cleaned it up cosmetically.
Dave was great. He is fun to deal with. Very pleasant and obviously very knowledgeable about Collins equipment. And yes....very reasonable in the cost department.
I feel like I made a new friend in this process. I am very pleased with the whole transaction !! Thanks Dave. Anyone with a problem with Collins equipment...or just needing info should give him a try !

S-Line Repair - A Great Job  Time owned: more than 12 months
Dave Knepper is one of those rare fellows who does great work for a fair price, stands behind his work, and is great fun to get to know. He repaired my 75S-1, 32S-1 and 516 speaker/power supply to an excellent state. The repair was prompt, and it is a joy to use the rigs. I highly recommend Dave Knepper's work.

Collins 30L-1 Amplifier  Time owned: 3 to 6 months
Dave does a great job repairing Collins items. He is very fair in his pricing for his work and stands behind it to no end. We have found him to be the one to use for any Collins repair and/or if you need information on Collins items ...he's the one to ask. Dave just repaired a Collins 30L-1 Amplifier for us and we were very pleased with his work.

Repair, check-out, and alignment of 32S-1 xmtr  Time owned: more than 12 months
David went through my 32S-1 Collins transmitter and returned it to excellent working condition by correcting several botched repairs that had been made over the years and then giving the radio a complete alignment. His service was very fast, and he was very pleasant to work with. I had the radio back within a week of sending it, and he charged a very reasonable fee for his services. Highly recommended.

THE SYMPHONY  Time owned: 0 to 3 months
Dave Knepper, W3ST orchestrated my 75S3-B. The
maestro brought it to like new performance.
An evening listening on the low end of 40 meters
I hear the music- a symphony ! With a good speaker (or phones) the signals are melodous CW notes amidst the calaphony of QRM.
Nothing like a great tube type receiver compared
to the best of solid state transceivers. The Drake
R4B comes close but, not quite there.
I currently am using the receiver in conjuction with a Drake TX4B transmitter (for ease of spotting and break-in) and am pleased with
the results versus my OMNI VI, FT847D, or FT520SE.
Great personalized service and superior results at reasonable rates.

Excellent, Prompt service  Time owned: 6 to 12 months
After acquiring a 75-S1 and 32-S1 from dubious E-Bay sources (I learned my lesson), I ended up with
2 units that needed serious work. The receiver, especially, had major problems. On the recommendation of Norm, WA3KEY, an old friend and major Collins collector, I entrusted both rigs to Dave Knepper's capable care. He corrected all problems and restored them to their original specs. His services were performed in a prompt and very friendly manner. Dave also did a "Tune-Up" on my Heath HW-101 and restored it to original specs. He's a great guy, I highly recommend him!

Outstanding Service  Time owned: 0 to 3 months
Hello All,
I have the "honor" of leaving Daves first review.
After too many years (57) of dreaming of owning a piece of Collins equipment, I came across a reasonably priced 75S-1 that was advertised on *** by a fellow HAM as an "extra piece in my collection" and "working". I guess we all know what that means. Hi Hi It would receive on 75 meters, both in AM and SSB modes, but that was the extent of its operational capabilities. After speaking with Dave on the telephone, who happens to be within driving distance from my QTH, arrangements were made to drive up and say hello and deliver the receiver a few days later. Three hours and five crystals later the 75S-1 was alive again. He went thru a meticulous procedure to diagnose, repair, PM and realign the unit. Dave has a genuine love for both the Amateur Radio hobby and Collins equipment. He is well respected in the amateur radio community and has made many friends around the world. As a new Collins owner, he took extra time to explain the receivers operation and welcomed me into the Collins family. He is a very kind a gracious individual, a true gentleman and scholar. I would highly recommend him to you as a source for both repairs and reconditioning of your valuable Collins gear. "Kudos Dave" for the excellent service. You certainly exceeded my expectations. P.S. I sent in my dues to the CRA as soon as I got home.
Joe W3RVN
