This course is below the basic level of communications and information required to perform for served agencies. The mentor was great in my case. Information provided, world standard Prowords and their meaning for example, were incorrect in the communications world and this concerns me when the hams are suppose to be striving for commonality with the agencies they serve. Instead, I get the impresssion the folks that wrote this book are tring to "write the book" on EMCOMM. The cost of the course for non-members is $75.00. This is crazy! A typical class in this theater typically costs $50 or less in a class room with hands on and real instructors. Material that folks might need, is not included. For example, an instruction on how to fill out an ICS-213 would have been nice in a basic course. How to read an ICS-205 and basic check-in procedures at an incident would seem very basic and appropriate....but they just did not exist in this amateur course. If you pay by credit card, you do not get a receipt. If you ask for one, they refuse to provide one and I think that might be against credit card policies. If you are a non-member, they invite you to evaluate the course after you have completed it and when you follow the links, you go to a link that pretty much tells you that if you want to evaluate it, join the ARRL! And if you question that via email, you don't get a reply! Most experienced radio operators should be able to pass this test with just a quick review of the book. This course does have the potential of being a good entry level basic training course for the Amateur Radio Operator if they clean up the errors. If they are going to provide information, provide all of it, not just part of it.
