Excellent Controller  Time owned: 0 to 3 months
I never really seriously considered using my computer and my logging software to control my rotor. Frankly, I like controlling everything manually, but lately I've been itching for something new in the shack. Computerizing the rotor seemed like the right thing to do. My 800SA controller could not be upgraded to accept an rs232 board and finding an 800DXA that could be upgraded meant spending at least $300 for the controller and an upgrade rs232 board.

Searching the EHAM product reviews I started looking at the MDS RC-1 as a good solution especially given its $250 cost relative to the other much more expensive units.

A few emails and a couple of weeks later I installed the RC-1 and had it working the first time without any problems whatsoever. Connecting it to my logging software, Logic8, was a snap and within 60 seconds I was directing the antenna simply by clicking on a point on my rotor map.

The RC-1 works perfectly as advertised and its smaller footprint has allowed me to nestle it on the bench between some other items. If you have an inexpensive rotor and want to upgrade to computer control, I would highly recommend the MDS RC-1 as a great solution.

Nice Controller  Time owned: 3 to 6 months
I bought this at Dayton this year and they shipped it home for me. Nice people to work with. I have the Yaesu version and it works great with my 800 series rotor. The readout is big and bright and the point to shoot is easy to use. The computer controlled positioning works well with Ham Radio Deluxe.
Having a method to build in your local declination is great too.

My only complaints are that the refreshing of the directional LCD flashes very apparently and is sometimes disturbing and the unit itself is rather small , which is good, but skids around on the desk top. A good unit at a price far less than a replacement Yaesu control box, if you can find one. I would recommend it.

Good product - still needs a bit of work to achieve perfection  Time owned: 0 to 3 months
Pro's - easy to install, works right out of the box. If you don't have one of the newer HiGAIN rotators, you may have to put a Jones plug on the controller cable.

Con's - Still needs a bit of work. New product - for HiGain, only tested by factory on HAM II rotator. On my Tailwister, had a bit of problem turning it to desired direction, but did get there with a little bit of persuasion (additional clicks on the computer graphic controller display). Interfaces with all computer programs that use the HiGAIN DCU1 communications protocol.
