The MIC200 can be used to warm-up the sterile, analytical sound of standard digital recordings and sound cards. It is also the perfect complement to studio-grade condenser microphones. When used as a high-end DI-box, it provides outstanding signal integrity. The TUBE ULTRAGAIN MIC200 includes a phase reverse switch, +48 V phantom power and 20 dB pad. Balanced ¼" TRS inputs and outputs and gold-plated XLR connectors provide a nice finishing touch.

Great item for ham use w/a new tube
|

For the money, it's hard to do better for ham radio use, even if you are a big AM or eSSB guy. Ditch the lousy stock Svetlana 12AX7 and put in anything better (I use old Baldwin/Sylvania tubes, which are cheap but sound a whole lot better), and you have a whole host of various EQ choices with varying mixed of starved-plate "tube sound" harmonics mixed in. Has phantom power available, as well as phase reverse; runs on pro or home stadards for line level, and has 1/4" TRS and XRL balanced inputs and outputs, as well as adjustable mic and preamp level controls, a switchable 20 db pad, and a fixed low-cut filter.
Downsides -- runs on a wall wart and has no onboard power switch (I plugged the wall wart into a switched AC cord so I could kill the phantom load when not in use), gets fairly warm, funny form factor makes it hard to install with good cable management AND being able to see the controls and LED level meter. Since I never adjust it once I found my best settings, that was okay with me, though.
Dollar for dollar, a great unit for ham use. Won't win any prizes for quality for audio recording, but for HF use it is more than plenty. Many hams will find this to be enough EQ for them and not need to spend any more. I use it as a front end for Behringer parametric EQ and noise gate/compressor/limiter, and my setup can do everything that a complete setup of W2IHY gear can for half the money, with a lot more adjustability AND a nifty vintage look (my rack-mount Behringer gear is part of their "Ultra-Tube line with more 12AX7s inside, with old Bakeline-style knobs and vintage-look meters).
Can't find any real faults for ham use, truthfully, short of the lack of a power switch. Would be nice if it ran on 12VDC, as most of us have a serious 12v power supply in the shack, but this is a very minor niggle!
