I had a design in mind for a kilowatt amplifier using the accumulated gear in my shack, I had always regarded the russian tubes as inferior and not worth using untill I read the reviews on the internet. On looking on EBAY the cheapest tube available was the GU43B, my rule is that I'll never give top price for used tubes, so a new old stock tube fits the bill. I fabricated a socket and powered it up after a period of regenerating the vacuum. What a surprise, the tube exceeded all expectations, even withstood the severe overloading and frightening screen current that comes from home brew design and construction. Running with tuned anode and tuned grid no neutralisation is needed. 30-40 watts drive produces 1100 watts out RMS. The 400 watt UK legal limit produces an air exit temperature of 65 deg C , the big cooling fins really do their job well. I've heared of tubes being described as "Butt Ugly", but this one is the daddy of all ugly tubes, however the performance is beautiful.
Even the heater voltage is easy to supply, 12v 6.6a. Best part of all is that they are military spec, not chinese copies of a good tube.
The signal out is clean as a whistle, with no change in audio quality when amp is switched in.
This big rugged tube deserves the highest rating for it's electrical toughness and performance, though it won't win any beauty contests.
