Fabulous  Time owned: more than 12 months
PEP resolved every issue, Truly a world class transceiver and the best I have owned.
Excellent move by Yaesu to create the PEP free upgrade.
(I also, happily, own a K3)

fantastic radio  Time owned: more than 12 months
This has been the finest radio I have ever had.The pep has brought the ft9000 radio up to the standards it was originally intended to be.The company has steped up to the plate and replaced complete boards not just parts to make this radio the finest radio on the market at no cost to the owners. They did this even to the radios that were out of warrenty for free. The radios contruction is of the quality of the famous ft1000D.No plastic face like a lot of the radios put out today. The case is metal as well.Listen to the receiver of this radio one time and you will be sold. This radio comes with a 3 year warrenty.Try to get other companys to do that.

OUTSTANDING  Time owned: 0 to 3 months
I have had a new 9000 for two months now after selling my 2000D which I liked very much..Very large radio which I like.nice matching speaker also..This will be my last radio for sure..I had a Flex 5000 which I bought new and also liked the rig very well..But after a few lock ups and lost contacts..I sold it...most of the problems may have been mine..I had a old PC...six months old..and was not a dual core...I got tried of the little problems and went back to a radio in a box with knobs..Guess I've been a ham to long...The 9000c is all I could ask for in a radio..very low noise floor..great DSP..filtering and Audio..I'm a user of this rig..I like what I see and hear..73s Bob

Top of the hill  Time owned: more than 12 months
I purchased the FTdx 9000 more than 14 months ago and loved it since the first moment. My experiences touched many "famous" brand from the boat anchors as Drake TR7 to the new gems (ft 847, ic 7000, ic 756 pro 3) but nothing could compare with the last PEP version of the yaesu masterpiece.
I'M ONLY CW.
The key point is the possibility to set quite every factor of the transceiver which make it very similar to a SDR but with great look and with the capability to accomplish every kind of activities (dx, contest, rag chew etc.).
All my radios have been tested always with the same antenna/qth conditions so i'm pretty sure about it :
1. super receiver is not enough if you're not able to discern weak signals from noise or crowded freq, ftdx 9000 excels in both
2. the transmitter pulls out a very sharp signal
3. the full bk in is simply superb
4. the possibility to see the keying speed (in numbers, wpm) is as simple as useful
5. the scope has been updated and now has exactly the same refresh you find on icom's top
6. the capability to combine several filtering options (microtune, if width, if shift, notch filter, roofing filter etc.) with the superb AGC system make this rig a perfect tool to work any kind of signal.

I have owned this radio since its inception.IC7800/IC.7700/IC.7000/IC.7600/IC.781/IC.756PRO3/ Outstanding performance. I use my ftdx9000d it
Exclusively on 10/M/15/M/20/M/17/M meters. It was used on low bands when my YAESU FT-2000D went
back for the “G” upgrade and performed well. The receiver sensitivity is excellent,
the pre-amp works well on weak signals. Have never had a problem of any kind with this radio. With 100 watts on 6 meters, I can work anything I hear. The noise blanker works
well in the base station set-up, have not used the radio only on base. Highly recommended.KP4BD.73/dx

9000 Phenomenal  Time owned: more than 12 months
Last week I had a FTdx9000mp fully loaded, a Quadra an Icom 7800 and a Flex 5000. Today on the left of my Quadra is my trusty 9000mp and to the right of the Quadra is my Flex 5000C and my new ftdx9000d. WOW it just doesn't get any better.... I was so overwhelmed with the unheard of step Yaesu took with the 9000 series, I traded my Icom 7800 for a 9000d. Yaesu redesigned and recalled every 9000 series rig on the planet, upgraded them and guess what....... no charge to the customer whether you are the original owner, or 2nd, 3rd, 4th, 5th or whatever (Yaesu even paid shipping both ways). This is unheard of, unprecedented and sets a new standard in the industry that will never be surpassed. Don't get me wrong, the 7800 is an amazing rig, however this is my way of paying Yaesu back for what they did for the amateur world.... just plain amazing.. 73 paul w8jn

Thrilled  Time owned: 3 to 6 months
While I own rigs from most of the major manufacturers including Kenwood, Icom, Yaesu, Ten Tec etc., I have have honestly been more of an Icom guy. I generally like the ergonomics and limited use of menus that Icom rigs present. I had intended on buying an Icom 7800 super rig to replace my Pro II and my Orion II.

That changed when I attended the Orlando Hamfest in February. I got to see the 9000 and 7800 in person. They were only a few booths away from each other. The 9000 made the 7800 look like a toy. The 9000's broad array of solid and beefy controls and layout that looks like the cockpit of an aircraft really impressed me. The 7800 simply looked like a bigger version of my Pro II. It still had the smallish kind of whimpy control knobs and I was a bit disappointed with the fake meters that appear on the screen.

Cosmetics are fine, but of course it is performance that matters. I had read all of the eHam reviews concerning what Yaesu did to clean up the firmware of the 9000 and the lengths they took to retrieve each rig and fix them. That is true customer service. At the same time, I read about transmitter problems that Icom was having with the 7800 and how they did not really support their users. The problems seem to be pretty widespread (possibly warranting a recall) yet if you were out of warranty, you were out of luck. You were probably going to spend a pretty penny to ship it back and get it fixed. That's not what should happen with a company's flagship radio. Icom seems to have been penny wise and pound foolish in that regard and that lack of support made my decision easier. By the way, an Icom authorized factory repair person warned me about the high incidence of transmitter failure with the 7800. That was enough for me.

I am thrilled with the 9000D I purchased. I won't reiterate all the features since so many previous reviewers have done it already, but I will just say that it is a terrific rig and it has more than met my expectations.

There was, however, one strange event that occurred. One day I turned the rig on and I noticed that the rig was off frequency everywhere. The readout was off to the negative side by a fairly large amount. I decided to check to see if the high stability crystal oscillator was functioning properly and so I removed the right side cover to check it out. It was stone cold. It clearly was not working. The condition persisted all day, even after resetting the radio. The next day I called Yaesu from work and they said to send it back and they would repair it. Oh dread, now I had to lug that giant to UPS and ship it out. The next day I was getting ready to pack it up and I decided to turn it on one last time before shipping it off to CA. Low and behold, everything was back on frequency. I opened the side cover and the oscillator was toasty warm as it should be. This issue has never recurred. It has worked fine for months now. I wonder if this ever happened to anyone else. If you have experienced anything like this, I would like to know. Please email me at n2dy@arrl.net.

Other than that one strange incident, the radio has performed flawlessly. Previously my main HF rigs were a Icom Pro II and a Ten Tec Orion II that I liked a great deal. I enjoy the Yaesu much more. Yaesu has done a great job with this super radio and most importantly they have supported it with great customer service. Icom should take note.

Fantastic  Time owned: more than 12 months
Dear friends
It is difficult to write review's,after respected friends said much,
with what , i complete agree - of course !
After review's of the technical features and enhancements that we call the ''PEP ''... thought that it is important to say a few things.
It is completely new device, which is not comparable with anything what can be found at other manufacturers of radio equipment.
What is significantly difference ? This is not ''one more'' electronic pack- in robust box.
But box ,with large number of unique, and genius solutions without compromise-- that 9000 certainly is !!
..Except tehnical resolution ,where Yaesu come with different access ,mostly superior, what make this really-HIGH END,
this product stir up all ......Yaesu listen wish of costumers ,and react on best way. With PEP !
I have couple of transceivers , can be called a top-quality technology products (R & S, iC7800, K3, FLEX5000, TT).Comparison of laboratory tests would be realistic if that do someone with a lot of better measuring equipment. Of course, with experience in such measurements . . Everyone of us ,who bought the devices in this class, very well know, why do that.Personally experience tell me -if that can make any tipe of enjoyment-
do that!!
Will the device in another class satisfy most needs..? Will ,of course.But...big BUT.......!!
FT9000PEP is not decoration on the table and not a status symbol-it is the realised dream, to all -who have amateur or professional dealing with radio communications. With the constant upgrades of firmware and very powerful hardware .The question is -where are the limits.
Through the open menu, each user of device- can give a stamp of personality.
Laboratory numbers are important, but do not give a complete picture.
Only work in all possible conditions : ''hunt''on DX, the battle with the propagations, all types struggle with interference-will leave you truly overjoyed . Sitting and work, suddenly you can hear something that never hear before -that is possible. This ''monster'' truly becomes something with what discover ,how to respond on numerous obstructions what hear daily on ''band''.
I read the instructions ,over and over ,and take new manuals from Yaesu web ...until remember, especially what is written with small letters ..
And then always have somewhere nearby - to verify my memo . With huge number of options ,and amazing capability to adapt, all what admire .., forgot to ''click'' and ''accuse equipment '' for our mistake is
possible .
I would say that.. I was a skeptic and critic, and rather suspicious.Had the chance and honor to be a member of a very specific group, which dealt with the FT9000 transceiver. And still dealing ,with my great joy. Not aware, that it ever conducted such a discussion -about any product in the world of electronics. Hundreds of e-mail message , exchange experiences and hopes for improvement. Back for several years. The group is of course *FT9000 group*, with wonderful friends ... that in certain moments of personal discouragement always had a friendly-mail, and their efforts certainly contributed strongly to come... to the realization of PEP program. Just the fact-Yaesu made a step, a step that has no marketing logic, and even the logic of the market. This is a very expensive project, but offered to amateur traditions. From the angle of radioamateur it is few steps up ,not only one.It is different way ,tell that is content of buyer on first place ,....and appreciation of objective expectations is without analogic in history .
We can say that something should be done at this ...or that way....
But a group of engineers certainly gave all of himself's, something that made the ultimate product.
Can we say that deserve respect and mention -undoubtedly ...we can and must - they deserve it . They tried to make our pleasure to be complete .Still try bringing the software to perfection.
Bad critic is always easy to say , but appreciate the effort ..when it is not about making money - it should be recognized. It's hard to count them all, but all are known to us. Most were enthusiastic , radio professionals and amateurs.THANK YOU!
Yaesu start the project in the USA, and Mr. Dennis has encouraged customers worldwide.
Yaesu UK took my equipment .. several thousand kilometers from UK .. can not even imagine how much effort is invested by Yaesu UK only about paperwork-before they came to the PEP.Temporary import, export, customs documents-all this ,is done by Yaesu. Transport to the great distance- from a state that is not''European Union'' ,is surely wery hard job. THANKS Paul!
After many years, thought that was hard to surprise me .Specialy with something- what is good .Results of PEP amazing and thrill me , in every positive sense.Any potential reader of my monologue-apologize.. but recomend * FT9000 group* for all questions .If really want device over-all classification, FT9000PEP certainly is that. History of radioamateur products remember some extraordinary products,
that are on the way to '' mark the radio world'' , but never on such a nice way like 9000- so close to ideal.
Wish you thousands of QSO's, lot of contests, and consciousness that in front of each device - is a man. I think that Yaesu FT9000, merged into one, all the greatest achievements- of great tradition. Leaving something what is- for ''all time ''.

Zoran-9A3Y
