A wish came true

I bought the HST because I wanted a rear pivoting, stiff lever sideswiper, and I enjoy using it.

I was brought up on a single lever key and hence prefer that mode of key.
The HST is heavy and won't move around the table.
If you wish provides a hair trigger response.
When compared to the other single & double paddles I've owned, the HST enables me to send better and faster CW.
I would recommend it to any single paddle user

This key confuses me: I was ready to swear that only by squeezing in Iambic mode one could reach QRQ speeds at 40 WPM and above.
I just posted a couple of video showing how this key enables operation at 50 WPM really at ease:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=r-lKKk5rx78
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TJxmmQteUjQ
The key has several advantages regarding QRQ:
- heavy base
- precise contacts
- state-of the art rest mechanism putting the arm always in the same rest position
- aluminum arm, yelding a perfect contact feeling
When going less than 30 WPM CW is really free of fatigue.
This key is, simply, a masterpiece.

Another Winner From Begali

I have several Begali dual paddle keys as well as a Begali Simplex Mono. I find I send most accurately with single paddle keys. So, I knew I would like the Begali HST single lever key.
It is rock solid, has a very light touch, and can be set to the closest of spacings. Fit and finish are top notch. And it has the look of a professional CW sending instrument.
Personally, I will never be able to attain the speeds of which this key is capable. But I can already tell that I can send with better accuracy. For me, that is very important.
If you are looking for the very finest instruments for the art of sending CW. You need look no further then the keys produced by Pietro Begali.

I was raised on single levers. This Begali HST Single Lever Key is the best performer I ever had - I had many and very expensive keys before, this one is superior!

Design perfection

I was born and raised using paddles for CW. I hang out with an old timer that likes to use a single lever paddle. I never really got used to it, being so accustomed to the typical dual paddle keys. But when I got the opportunity to try the new Begali HST I couldn’t resist putting it to the test. I’m a sucker for a good key! I think the thing that really sets Begali keys apart from the others is the perfect combining of form and function. Looking closely at this key you can see what appears to be a very simply design. Not so. The unique V groove tension mechanism works perfectly to maintain the paddle shaft EXACTLY in the center position every time. This allows you to adjust the contact spacing just as tight as you could ever want. That is the perfect function of this key. Now the form… Looking at the key, it looks like “something old, something new”. With the rough cast base it shows respect to the long history of CW, looking like a very old design. When you look at the lever, it is a very different story. Piero and Bruna take the obvious and make it to something very elegant. The beam is machined in a 3D form from the bearing end, down to a narrower dimension to reduce mass, and then to the front attachment point, to the fin-shaped finger piece. The light grooves machined into the finger piece are just the finishing touches. A very elegant piece of machine work, both in form and function. The shear weight of the base allows you to get jiggy with it and the key goes nowhere. I think I will eventually get used to a single lever paddle, if I can just get those Ls right! hi
The side swiper? That will be another talent for another day... hi

I heard through the grapevine about the prototype for a new single lever key that Piero was designing, and, although I already own his outstanding Simplex Mono single lever key, I ordered that new key blind. It arrived just before Christmas, and it certainly was among the nicest Christmas gifts I have ever given myself ;-) This key combines elegance and ruggedness with a deceptively simple looking design. Looking a little closer you see how much engineering went into the tension adjustment and into the shape of that long lever.
In operation this key is pure pleasure. The contact spacing can be adjusted with absolute precision, and the center postion is very well defined. There is a switch that lets you select sideswiper mode, too. Although I have rarely tried my hand at a Cootie key, this feels like I could grow accustomed to it. I'll definitely try to improve my skills so that I can switch between an electronic key and a fully manual key at the flick of a switch and not embarrass myself in that mode. (amazing that there are still new tricks to learn in good old CW)
If you are a single lever user and you are looking for the utlimate single lever key, this is probably it.
