Improved 10m output

Time owned: 0 to 3 months

By removing the top screw on C37 (25pf 7.5kv) and bending the strap up a bit. The 10m efficiency is increased by 10% without any side affects. It will now run 1500 cw out on 10m but you need to drive it at about 75 watts. This modification came frome W6RU.

1500+ out but not on 10m

I am vary happy with my new Henry 3kd-permier 8877. It will run 1800 to 2000 watts cw out with 60-65 drive on all bands except 10m. I can only get 1300 watts cw out with out realy pushing the tube. The efficency on 10m is down to 45%. Henry says if you want 160m, 10m will suffer with this design. The lack of over abundant power on 10m is not a problem for me as I dont even have an antenna for that band. But I do see it as a flaw (its only flaw). It runs vary cool at idle and even on a extended ssb QSO at legel limit the amp barely gives off any heat! I need to only run 45 to 50 watts drive 90% of the time to keep me happy. The HV runs about 3900-4000 no load and can dip to 3400 under heavy load. The warm up delay is a bit short for my taste at only just over a minute (I let it sit for at least three minutes after I turn it on). The add on both radiodans and Henry web site both lead you to believe the amp has a vacume realy, it does not. But it is QSK compatible none the less. The input swr is vary good (less than 1.4:1) on all ham bands including 30m. The fan noise is not bad at all, in fact I dont mined leaving the amp on all day at my desk while im on the computer and not on the radio. If you need any more specific info please E-mail me at kj7e@uswest.net . All in all its a great amp that puts the power out. Its not perfect but no amp is.

The best 160-10M 8877 desktop on the market!
|
Time owned: 3 to 6 months
|
Henry has done it again with the introduction of their new 3KD Premier-8877 desktop 160-10M w/WARC amplifier. Using the popular 8877 and a quieter blower this amplifier easily does the legal limit while letting your radio run near half power to drive it. Always made at their Los Angeles facility using mostly HENRY made parts, such as:
Roller inductor (for precise repeatable tuneup)
Plate choke
Band switch
Filament choke,
Chimney,
Individual band input network, and more! Most HENRYs are now available in Black or traditional gray.
One look at the parts used and construction will win you over, plus their legendary reputation for making the finest commercial and HAM amps since 1962.
