Reviews Summary for The Backbone by KG4YNI
The Backbone by KG4YNI Reviews: 7 Average rating: 5.0/5 MSRP: $179
Description: The BACKBONE is a mounting system for remote heads that will be the most versatile accessory to be employed with your radio. The BACKBONE was designed by radio operators for radio operators. It can be customized to fit a wide array of installations anywhere a radio can be mounted. Whether in your vehicle or in your shack you have an easily adjusted solid mount.

With true 360 degree fully articulated movement and adjustability, the BACKBONE can suit any need or position required by the operator. With the twist of a single knob all three pivot points loosen to allow positioning of your choice and locking exactly there when you re-tighten the knob.
Product is in production.

Fantastic Mount!!  Time owned: 3 to 6 months
Over the weekend I installed my ICOM 7000 in my 2012 Chevrolet Silverado and used the KG4YNI Backbone mount. It was very easy to install, looks very professional and is very sturdy. The Backbone holds my ICOM 7000 Faceplate as solid as a rock, no movement or vibration whatsoever. We even tested it going down a very rough gravel road. I couldn't be happier with this mount and will be using it for any mobile mounting situations in the future!

Do you have a floppy head mount ?  Time owned: 0 to 3 months
I first met Ernie Haynes, KG4YNI, at the 2010 Shelby, NC Hamfest where he was displaying his "Backbone" remote head mount. It was a unique and solid mount and I knew that I had to have one to replace the flimsy car mount that currently held the head of my Icom-2720. Unfortunately just after the hamfest the 2720 died and had to be replaced so I purchased an Icom-7000. Still needing a new head mount I called Ernie to order one of his new "Backbone" mounts and to get suggestions as to how to best install it. Since I live in Florida and only a few hours from Ernie's shop, he suggested that I come down and he would custom build a brace to hold the "Backbone" exactly where I wanted it. Needless to say, Ernie did a fantastic job with my installation and I am exceptionally pleased with his customer service of what ever it takes to make the customer happy. If you want a remote head mount that can't be beat, I highly recommend the "Backbone" by KG4YNI.

Ultimate Quality  Time owned: 3 to 6 months
This versitle mobile mount can also be used in the shack. With the twist of a single knob the two section mount can be moved to any position desired and lock in as solid as a rock. It's capable of holding a ten pound radio without a bit of movement. This is made from solid machined steel components and towers head and shoulders above ANYTHING else available on the market. Ernie, KG4YNI also works with you to customize you mount for any application. I have never seen customer service this good for any mobile accessory. The control head adapter plates are black powder coated mil-spec. items that will deliver a lifetime of use. When you buy a new or different radio you just change out the adapter plate. The Backbone can be used to hold the entire radio if yours does not have a remote kit. It's that strong! I've had one of these for about six months and it's the only mobile mount I'll ever buy. Kudo's to Ernie and American quality.

This is heavy duty mount with much versatility  Time owned: 0 to 3 months
Put Some Back Bone into your Mobile Installation

After four years of being a HAM I decided that now is the time for me to install a transceiver in my SUV.
There are serveral nets that I check in with on a regular basis from my home Base Station, unfortunately
I have missed a few lately because of a change in my work schedule, these nets are usually in progress
as I travel back and forth from my office which is a forty five minute commute. So If I had a mobile unit I could
still check into the nets even as I travelled to work and back.

I have an FT-857D transceiver with detachable head capability, and I wanted to mount this in my 2006
Nissan Armada with the head mounted as closely as possible to the convenience of my driving compartment,
and the main unit mounted in a compartment near the third row seating area, so I needed a device that would allow
me to mount the head where I wanted it with the versatility of repositioning the veiw angle to my desire at any given
time, I needed something that was easy to operate , strong and secure, and most of all non evasive. I did not
want to make any cuts, drill any holes in the center console, dashboard, or any other part of this $52,000 dollar vehicle
just to mount an HF transceiver, I needed sometimg that could do ALL that I needed including installation that was
quick, easy, with no cuts or holes.

A few weeks ago, while attending HAMCATION here in Orlando, Florida , I witnessed a demo as I walked by a
Vendor's table (KG4YNI Amateur Radio Products). The gentleman was showing a mount that was controllable with a
single knob, yet it could be positioned in many different configurations, and it was strong enough to hold any transceiver,
and it allowed for remote head installations. I was impressed, so I picked up a brochure then continued my shopping,
after all, I still has unanwered questions about this device. After the event was over and as I sat in my "Radio" room
reveiwing some of the brochures that I had collected, I came accross a brochure that said "The Back Bone" and it had
a picture of the same device that I had witnessed just a few days prior, so I decided to call and ask a few questions about
this device.

When I called the customer support number and spoke with them, all of my questions were answered to my satisfaction,
and I decided to purchase a unit, I was so impressed with the fact that they were such good listeners, they truly want
you to be a satisfied customer...and I am.

The Mount is now installed in my Armada, and the FT-857D transceiver head operations are extremely solid. If you are
in the market for a mount for your mobile rig, Mobile Home, or QTH, please consider the "BackBone" , the construction is very
heavy duty, the price is fair, the customer service is outstanding, and this Business revisits the "OLE" concept of "Hams"
helping "Hams". KG4YNI Amateur Radio Products, http://www.kg4yni.com/

Excellent Product  Time owned: 0 to 3 months
I just got a new car and wanted a good installation for my FT-8800 head. The Backbone now installed is rock solid. Got some useful advise for the placement from Backbone's customer service. Now I can turn any dial and press any button and the radio stays as solid as can be. With a simple twist of the knob on the Backbone the 8800 head can now be angled to any operating position.
One very happy customer
Just a nice product that does what you expected it to do.

The ultimate mount  Time owned: 6 to 12 months
I have owned this mount for a few months now and have bought a second for my other vehicle. It is solid as a rock, doesn't flex while operating the face buttons of my IC-2820H (even changing from left to right on the face), and is so adjustable that there is no bad operating position or angle.
