Old electrolics are prone to fail. Prior to power up an AC4 made in 1967,which had not been used for about 7 years, I checked all the electrolitics with this kit (all the of them were first discharged). Some electrolics seemed to be in very good conditions (similar to new ones), others a little bit weaker but not that much. I decided not to replace any of them. Then I powered up a T-4 and both the AC4 and the T-4 both survived. This is the only ESR meter I have and I cannot compare with others. The kit is very easy to build and easy to use. It needs a tester which reads 100 or 200 microampers, and a trimmer is used to calibrate the meter (should read about 100 microamperes for a good electrolic).
