Don't waste your money
|

Unit only worked so-so, it uses some kind of update system that does not record or indicate wind gusts or live indications, everything is averaged, a poor design at best. This is my second unit, I previously owned another model, it died and was as bad as this one. My fault for buying a product that was inferior, I thought they had imporved the system, they didn't. Just about the worse electronic product I have ever owned.

Bought this unit new a little over a year ago from a Major Online store in the Rain Forest. It's never worked right from day one. The annenometer is very cheaply built and would not turn unless a 5mph + wind was present. It also broke about half way though last winter. The rain collector lasted 1/2 of last winter as the solder joints corroded. Customer service from LaCrosse was non existent. Refresh rate when not hardwired is unacceptable. If you frequent 6 meters forget it. This unit will constantly have to be reset if you use more than 100 watts on 6 meters in the area. The software is not compatible with Windows Vista 64 bit either. Save your money and go Davis or Peet.

Right out of the box!

I purchased this product after an awful experience with an Oregon Scientific WMR100N. The instructions are thorough (especially the troubleshooting section) and easily followed. The rain gauge and the wind gauge are both wired with separate 32 ft cables to the outside temp/humidity sensor, which in turn transmits all the data to the base via 433 mhz. I assembled the station on a table out of the box, and the sensors all communicated within a few seconds. I then placed the sensors outside in a temporary set-up, and again within a few seconds of the last batteries being placed, the components were communicating. I now have permanently placed the sensors, and again there was nearly immediate contact between the components.
The base/control head lcd display is a bit difficult to read unless you are looking straight into it, but this is a minor bother to me.
In the temporary set-up I did find some RF getting into the rain sensor from 2 meters, but when permanently installed at a reasonable distance from the antenna there is now no RF false readings.
HeavyWeather software comes with the product. Originally designed to use the RS-232 port, there is now a USB adapter provided also. I haven't yet installed the software so cannot comment on it or the throughput between PC and weather station.
I am extremely pleased with this product. I was able to purchase it for $100 less than the MSRP, and according to a quick scan of websites it can be pruchased at a price reasonably less than the MSRP.
