Endorphin rush!
|
Time owned: 0 to 3 months
|
What a totally awesome piece!!!
My fingers have never touched a paddle of this beauty and precision before!
I was weaned on W1AW broadcasts, so I’m a lover of correctly defined cw.
On my first qso with this beautiful piece, I felt like I was sending the most perfect code in my life.
What an endorphin rush!
My xyl couldn’t figure out how I could be so excited about it.
I am fortunate enough here to have Tony’s first ZN-5B unit.
I emailed him asking if he would consider making me a unit with a 3 pound base.
This jewel weighs 3 pounds 8 ounces!
Tony installed the standard short fingerpieces on it, but added within the box the longer fingerpieces at no cost, in case I wanted to try them.
The sensitivity will blow you away!
I looked at the contact spacing with an 8 power assembler’s eye-piece and even with magnification I cannot see any contact space. For the life of me, I can’t figure out how Tony does it. I don’t dare touch its setup, it’s so sensitive.
Tony also put my call on the top plate.
The brass is laminated with around 5 coats of clear finish, and it is beautiful.
It was a plug-&-play with my Elecraft K2
I consider the opportunity to get the ZN-5B a real catch.
And I’m totally psyched about having the very first unit.
As you may know, the reality of specialty designed devices for hams is usually brief as the designer will eventually retire.
And then, the really awesome devices become a prized collector’s item.
If you are fortunate enough to get one of Tony’s units, go for it.
