Finally!!!  Time owned: 0 to 3 months
Finally!!! Radio Shack has created a decent WX Alert radio. Besides the usual things you would expect from a modern WX Alert Radio, you get the 2 meter ham band, dual speakers, an EXCELLENT display, and many buttons to make programming a snap (unlike all previous Radio Shack WX radios, which were a PIA to program). Job well done on this WX Radio, Radio Shack.

Good for my Station  Time owned: 0 to 3 months
I prurchased this on May 19,2010 and I am pleased for the most part. The only negatives I can remark on, the Blue Backlight Display is a little too bright at night, an "OFF" selection to come on when an Alert is triggered would have been good in addition to Low-Med-High. I do seek the location of the serial number that is printed on my receipt, but I can not locate it on my unit or the box.

Otherwise, this is a great unit and I am a SKYWARN Spotter and the 2-Meter and 440MHz Ham reception is actually better than my PRO-2055 scanner, both on indoor antennas (supplied). Another nice surprise is that the FM reception is in "Stereo" and I feel this should be included as a feature on the box and brochures/website.

Needs some improvement  Time owned: 0 to 3 months
The Radio Shack model # 732R leaves some room improvement with audio that has a cheap sound and tends to grate on your ears. The unit has two very small speakers which does no justice to the sound and it would have been better with just one larger speaker along with a beefed up audio circuit. It is plenty loud alright, but it sounds downright awful like a cheap transistor radio.
Besides having the weather band as its primary feature, the radio also has standard AM and FM, and it also covers the complete 2 meter and 70cm amateur bands. The amateur frequencies are a unique feature to this unit and it is included so that you can monitor skywarn activities from ham operators who serve as weather spotters. Unfortunately however, the sensitivity on the receiver is sorely lacking and the attempt at such wideband coverage suffers from inadequate circuit design. Reception on the weather band is just about sufficient using the indoor telescopic antenna, but reception of the AM/FM bands and the amateur bands leaves a lot to be desired. A rooftop external antenna will likely be necessary if you live outside the range of local signals, and a must if you're deep out in the country away from any metro area.
The 732R serves the purpose for what it's made to do with the alert modes and S.A.M.E. technology getting the job done okay, but it seems like the folks at Radio Shack took several short cuts in the design of this unit which results in a compromise to its performance. This would be a great product if a few improvements were included to make it worth the $$$.
