HF receiver  Time owned: 0 to 3 months
I found at a hamfest this receiver still with the original packages full optional in brand new conditions with the user and service manual.
The service manual albeit it might seem not necessary it sheds light on how this receivers is built, its architecture and so on. Manuals are in German.

This unit receives from 10 to 600 Khz and from 1,5 to 30 Mhz. If you have a strong nearby station in the mediumwave, it can be received albeit strongly attenuated.

Pros:
- outstanding internal view. Mechanically the inside is just amazing. You can access the inside removing by hand the four screws on the front panel and gently slide the unit pulling out the receiver from the cabinet!
- outstanding automatic preselector. This unit is nearly impossible to overload whatever the antenna is used.
- LF reception down to 10Khz is fantastic. Probably this is one of the best LF receiver. I used a MT antenna by RF-Systems and heard strong signals.
- The first mixer is a high level quality one and I have seen it is rated at 10dbm RF input.
- The unit seems to have a lamp protector at the RF input.
- It has 5 IF sharp filters, excellent for digital modes. The internal speaker is fine.
- After the IF filters there is in the chain a 30Khz bnc IF output at 600 ohm, perfectly matched for the line in input of a soundcard. Use Winrad and makes this receiver a super filtered SDR.
- The "HF" gain control can control the level out of the IF output and manually "calibrate" the noise floor that appears in Winrad.
- the S-meter is fantastic. Albeit it's sensitive beyond 0.5 microvolt, it reads RF starting from 1 microvolt, i.e. -107dbm, i.e. S3. Beyond it reads up to 120dbm beyond 1 microvolt, i.e. something like up S9+86db! It seems to be much more precise compared to the usual S-meters in the ham radio!

Cons:
- contraves are used to change the frequency. They do not look particularly very strong. At the rear side there is a large connector for remote control, in principle this radio could probably be controlled by means of software or external unit but I have no information about that.
- Knobs are small.
- If I do not use a PC for demolulation and IF-DSP filtering the RX as such receives both sidebands, upper and lower at the same time. Instead when I use the software Winrad with it, I filter out just the sideband of interest.
- The unit has two AGC levels, but not AGC OFF.

Overall this radio is amazing in many respects especially the front-end seems to me a very good one. Using a SDR program such as Winrad you add IF DSP filtering, eliminate the unwanted sideband, have Noise Reduction and... have a cup of coffee...
