It's all about quantity....  Time owned: 0 to 3 months
A number of my colleagues are discovering the unexpected quality found in what are referred to as gaming headsets. The one I chose is the Creative Labs HS-800, aka the Fatal1ty Gaming Headset. Once you get by the colorful appliques, you'll find quality microphones, comfortable earcups, and headset transducers which employ powerful neodymium magnets. My recorded voice is reproduced with perfect fidelity. These headsets are produced by the hundreds of thousands, perhaps millions of units and therein lies the advantage. As the numbers go up, the price comes down. My headset and microphone plugs directly into the back of the Elecraft K3. No adapters are required. THe 8' cord is the longest I've seen on a headset and allows you to move about the operating area if required. Just look for a set that uses 3mm sound card jacks, not a USB connector.
