Work of art  Time owned: more than 12 months
They don't make them like they use to, this radio is really small for it's vintage. I have a black with chrome trim Turner +2 desk mike for mine, it looks classic. It's not fair comparing these radios with modern rigs, I hate to repeat the old cliche about comparing apples to oranges. I have mine in my bookcase and seldom use it, it's my backup HF rig.

Really nice Rig.  Time owned: more than 12 months
I've had my Atlas 210x and the original Atlas frequency meter for over 4 years now.
Really impressive TX audio, normally people be surprised with the TX audio quality. Very funny for a 70's rig.
The VFO drift a little, it's normal for a rig 20 years old.
Easy to use and fix.
100W output with only 16 amp.
Small for portable operation.
All solid state.

Tks PY1MV

Simple rig - good Field Day station  Time owned: 3 to 6 months
I'm a, relatively, new ham who likes "experienced" equipment.
I found an Atlas 210 on Ebay and was able to use it for my club's GOTA (Get On The Air) station this past Field Day.
While it doesn't have the features of newer equipment and it does drift a bit, this is a robust and simple rig. I was able to train a group of 12-year olds in it's use in a few minutes and get them on the air with a minimum of fuss. Using an inverted "V" dipole, the rig got good reports from several of the people we talked with. The short contacts that are typical of Field Day minimized any drift problems that might be annoying during a long ragchew.

All told - simple rig to set up - simple rig to use - easy to explain operations for public demos. It has its limitations but once you downgrade your expectations, it's just a fun set to use.

Nice older Radio  Time owned: 0 to 3 months
Great is not the best way to describe this radio(atlas 215X)but neither is good so i gave it a 5 because there is no 4.5 rating to choose from.I own a FT-450 and a FT-950 and just recently bought this Atlas 215X with console.About all i can say is gosh it is kind of nice to listen too and play with a older radio.Of course the recieve is behind the newer radio's and it has limited control's to fool with but darn it sure sound's good for having such little opportunities to try and make it sound better.I've owned a Atlas in the past and just plain forgot how good of a little radio it was.Now here is a older radio for those of you who have forgotten how to dip the meter and really would rather not learn but still can not afford the newer stuff and want a solid state radio then you might just want to consider one of these old radio's as you can normally buy them in decent shape for little money say around $200.00 or less.....

good for a 20 th century rig  Time owned: more than 12 months
I have one og those "marvels"for many years, but now that I changed in this century it to an IC 703, I reaaly think that I was missing some very needed things, like NB and RIT..

Still works  Time owned: more than 12 months
This weekend I stumbled across these reviews of the Atlas 215X. In 1975 I bought this radio for a boat that I lived on. In 1981 I sold the boat and removed the radio. This site reminded me that I still had this radio. So I found it and the wire dipole that I used in 1981 in a plastic milk crate in the garage. I dusted it off, draped the dipole antenna oved my deck. It came on and worked perfectly. It still has great audio. I was able to contact a British Columbia station from here in New Mexico. So I am back on the air again.

Need more radios like this radio  Time owned: more than 12 months
I have the 210x with base and mobile consoles. This in my opinion is a great radio, mainly because it is very simple to operate. Some of these modern radios are so complicated; that it is a bit intimidating. With all our updated technology it seems to me that ham radios would be made simpler to use and not so complicated that a person has to keep the manual within arms reach at all times. That is not why I became a ham radio operator. I also have a 350XL and seems the only problems encountered are when the digital display is turned on that one of the single digit displays has two led’s that will not light up all the time. I plan on adding another 210x or 215x to my station, that way I can relax and make contacts instead of playing with menus and deciding what perimeters needs to be changed searching for perfection.

Simple but great rig  Time owned: more than 12 months
I had an Atlas 210-X for a couple of years, used it all the time. While other rigs sat in the off position until I decided to get a new rig. Bought an FT-897 and boxed up all the old stuff and sold it off. Big mistake, I like my FT-897, but of the old rigs I missed the Atlas 210-X the most. Just purchased one off ebay, came in a suitcase with log book of old owner included (was being sold from an estate)rig was untested and I started looking in the old log book and last QSO was 7/18/1983 (my 32cd birthday). I received it last Friday powered it up Saturday morning and have made about 30Q's since then. Very little drift, full power out, no problems. I will be keeping this rig for a back-up and weekend fun. Now to get a Atlas 215-X so I can use it on 160m!

Still a great rig  Time owned: more than 12 months
I have an Atlas-210 and an Atlas-210X for 2 years. It is a simple radio to use and it works well. You can listen to the audio all day with no fatigue, as it is natural and rich. The receiver performance still compares with many modern rigs and is very often much better then all the new designs. The VFO is drifting a little bit, but not too much. Transmit audio is superb with a high quality crystal 8 pole ladder filter in the single IF. That same filter is a little wide (2.7 kHz) on receive but has good skirt selectivity. The power consumption on receive is very low, current is on receive around 180mA with the scale illumination off. The poppy audio derives AGC can be improved. I did more than one mods on 3 types: Atlas-210, Atlas-210x and Atlas-215x. See for information my website: http://www.xs4all.nl/~pa0fri => Mods
