The Kenwood D7 is without an equal.  Time owned: unknown months
I don't know what can be said about the D7 that isn't already known. This radio has no other equal that it can be compared to. Its operation as a "standard" dual band HT is simply excellent and in that alone, it is deserving of a 5 star rating. However, this HT is much much more than an average HT. With built in packet operation and APRS firmware, this radio goes where no other has gone before. Those interested in APRS can stop searching for any other radio and know that this is "the" radio for them.

Not just your average dual band HT!  Time owned: unknown months
While the other manufacturers continue to release dual-band (2m/70cm) radios that aren't anything to get excited about, Kenwood did something revolutionary with their TH-D7A - include a TNC built right in! Hook up a GPS to the TH-D7A and you have a tracker for APRS use. Hook up a PC to it and you have a complete packet station that does both 1200 and 9600 baud. This radio is very easy to use - the menu system is intuitive and the manual is well written. This radio is responsible for introducing APRS to many more hams all over the world. In addition it can control the Kenwood VC-H1 video system as well as remotely control some of the newer Kenwood HF rigs.
