Failed Rotator Solutions  Time owned: 0 to 3 months
I just wanted to post a review of Norm's Rotor Service.

I think that Norm is providing a great service for the Ham Radio community. Several weeks ago my trusty T2X antenna rotator failed on the tower and locked in at 330 Deg. Since the unit had been in service with no maintenace on my part for 24 years, I figured it was time for a new one. Talk about sticker shock! The price of replacement was high in my book.

Not to Fear, Norm's has the solution. They have an exchange program that I feel is a sweet deal...
I contacted them, and within a week or so I received a rebuilt, new in appearance, T2X. I was able to swap out the units on my tower in a few hours and boom!....I'm back in the swing of radio'n. I shipped my old unit back to Norm's, and they are going to rebuild it for a flat rate labor plus parts. I don't have the final cost yet, but it appears it will be less than half the cost of a new one. This will vary, of course depending on how badly my unit is damaged. Quick and easy, and I keep the unit I was shipped. I highly recommend that you check with Norm's for any and all rotator needs - Good service, honest dealings; what more could a Ham want?

Great deal  Time owned: 0 to 3 months
Sent Norm a rusty 1979 vintage HamIV rotator. It worked, but I would never put it up. About 30 days later, got a brand new looking unit with all important "guts" replaced for $184 inc shipping from Norm to me. As a new rotator unit alone costs $450 from manufacturer, that's a good deal in my book. Norm also gave me the option of replacing the housing (which was upgraded by manufacturer) but agreed I didn't need it with inside tower mounting and thrust bearing -- thinking of my needs and not his profit margin. I highly recommend this service. I added an Idiom Press mod to the control head and have better than new rotator and control for less than the cost of the rotator alone! Can't beat that!

Two Referb U110s shipped perfect  Time owned: 0 to 3 months
I purchased two referbed U110 rotors for a homebrew az/el project. Norm took my order, made suggestions and shipped quick. I get the feeling talking to him that he cares about your order. The order shipped well and arrived packaged safe. Both units are in "like new" condition and I've no doubt that should they ever need service I'll be using Norm again.

Thanks!

Norm, you lived up to your reputation.  Time owned: 6 to 12 months
I was impressed with your professionalism in how you communicated with me on items that needed to be dealt with and what the costs would be. I was further impressed with the finished product. The units have the appearance of almost new once again. After I installed the rotor and connected the control box all systems worked beautifully for the first time in a long time. And finally I thank you for the detailed invoice so there is no question what was done. I really appreciated that. You probably don't need my help marketing your business, but I want you to know I will not hesitate to recommend your services to anyone that needs that kind of work.

Looking forward to a long rotor life  Time owned: 0 to 3 months
Sent Norm a 1983 vintage Ham IV after a very nice discussion on the phone which helped me make several decisions on how I wanted my installation to go.

Rotor works perfectly. Refurb time took exactly as estimated.

NRS knows not only how to fix rotors but what needs to be done to prevent future problems. I'd rather raplace a part now and save a trip up the tower a year from now in the middle of contest season or a big DXpedition.

very competent and helpful  Time owned: months
Norm is quite knowledgable and helpful. He can answer all of your questions on the phone.

I ordered a rotor controller for a Ham 2 rotor from him and would do business with him again.

Over Priced and Slow  Time owned: 0 to 3 months
I recently decided to send my Ham II to someone for a rebuild. Based on reviews on this site, I selected Norm's Rotor Service. I decided to do the exchange so that I would only have to crank the tower down once. I talked to Norm, and he promised to ship the next week. The next week came and went, and he finally shipped the following week after I called him. The unit I received was fine, and works well, but he charged me $19.95 for an extra Amp plug (excessive, but so what). After I sent my rotor back, he charged me a total of $218.57 (including the labor charge, but not including the Amp plug). An outright purchase would have been $249. I could have accepted the charge, but he replaced many things that I was pretty sure were ok, including the motor, and all 83 ball bearings. I am pretty sure that the motor was ok, and I am CERTAIN that the ball bearings were ok. I couldn't question the rest of the bill since I didn't remember the condition of the other parts that he replaced. So, I guess that success has gone to Norm's head. You may want to consider the other guy. After all, competition is a good thing.

Great  Time owned: more than 12 months
I had Norm look at a rotor that I had used for years that started showing (and acting) it's age. Norm did a great job repairing it to look and work as new. He was excellent in discussing my needs and the status of the repair.

Outstanding  Time owned: 0 to 3 months
I bought a used Ham II rotor and controller at a hamfest, and surprise, it didn't work when I put it on the bench. I had read about Norm's Rotor Service on this site and decided to give him a try.
I shipped it to him and he called and said the controller I had sent him was not a match for the rotor and wouldn't work. He suggested a different controller and gave me credit for the one I had sent him. I received the box from him today and am very pleased with his work. The rotor looks like it is brand new and the controller is equipped with the brake release like the other one should have had. He even includes a copy of the original manual for the rotor. If you need a rotor or controller rebuilt, don't hesitate to send it to Norm for a quality job at a good price. His craftsmanship is outstanding and he can answer any questions you may have about rotors and controllers. Very pleasant to talk with on the phone and great communication about the progress on your equipment. Norm is a real credit to the Ham Community.

Excellent Repair  Time owned: 0 to 3 months
Requested a full blown overhaul of my Alliance HD-73 rotor and control. Received it from Norm 1-19-07. What other customers have said is true...it looks and works better the when it was brand new. What a delight to get good service and craftsmanship at a fair price.
