Reviews Summary for Asterisk APP_RPT
Asterisk APP_RPT Reviews: 3 Average rating: 5.0/5 MSRP: $FREE
Description: Using the Asterisk PBX software, and registering for a node number via, and installing with a USB digital audio converter, you can build a full-featured repeater for a lot less than the cost of a hardware solution. However, this is not a plug-and-play solution.
Product is in production.

Fantastic system!  Time owned: more than 12 months
Allstar link is easily the best thing to happen to VOIP radio. This software and a $10 USB sound fob exceeds the capability of any Echolink or IRLP station.

Of course, Echolink is supported with APP_RPT, so you have the best two VOIP systems in one box. IRLP is no longer supported in Allstar Link, at the demand of IRLP's founder Dave Cameron.

I've had VOIP nodes on the air since 2005. First an Echolink node, then EchoIRLP. Take it from me, Allstar is the way to go!

good thing  Time owned: more than 12 months
as i work with asterisk since the verion 1.1
i like very much the design and idea of using asterisk for such purposes. It even let use all the codecīs.
The only thing is this project seems to be maintained now by some ham with sellfish behaviour, blocking ham's for unknown reasonb from the allstar network.
this doesn't fit to hamspirit and the idea of opensource software for ham radio.

Good value, extremely flexible, and extensible for little $  Time owned: 3 to 6 months
The asterisk app_rpt open source application allows you to repurpose one of those older computers into a full-featured, flexible, and networkable repeater controllers that will more than meet the needs of most repeater operations.

Using a dongle from DMK Engineering, it is possible to build a multi-radio linked repeater system with full autopatch (like anyone uses it anymore, right?) capability, courtesy tones, polite ids, audio file playback, internet linking via the allstar system, as well as support for simplex nodes, remote bases, and rig control for cat-compatible HF rigs.

It's not for the faint of heart, though. You do need some experience on more than a user level with Linux (specifically CentOS or Limey Linux) and the ability to debug, using command line tools, the operation.

What you'll get, in the end, is a flexible, highly supported repeater systems that, via the internet (and optional Echolink and APRS modules) full connectivity, wide area coverage with like-minded and equipped operators, and repeater that is infinitely configurable limited only by your imagination and shell scripting skills.

If you're game, I highly recommend this software and architecture (and have NO financial interest in saying so...).
