Very rugged linear amplifier, fully protected, fast band change  Time owned: 3 to 6 months
I field tested this linear amplifier since some months now, a CE certified preproduction unit.
RM Italy has already fixed some minor firmware issues. Now it is on sale here in Europe. I have used it in some HF contests, CW and SSB, trouble free. The fast autoband change by RF sensing the frequency in use, no tune control due to the solid state broadband design based around 2 rugged MRF157 Mosfets at 50V, the over dimensioned dissipators - cooling system, fully protected, give to the operator a very easy and safe band change and use experience. The menu is easily accessed by a 4 arrows keyboard control and you can even time switch off the switching power supply unit (I had no problems with RX RFI by PSU at all), control the cooling system, and other options controlled by CPU. What impressed me about the inside is the rugged and clean building. The low pass filters, 7 autoband relays switched units, uses good quality RF/High voltage Mica isolated capacitors and big size toroidal cores. The psu unit is shielded from the RF unit and the lowpass filter unit is also mostly shielded. There are 3 inside blowers in the RF units and the psu unit has its own blower. I tested also the 2 tones IMD and I found that the 5,7,9th orders are well down, the 3rd order is on pair to other solid state amplifiers for same power level (average solid state vs tetrode tubes like 4CX800A 2T IMD is still around about 10 dB less attenuated, but it depends by test conditions, freq.). Harmonics attenuation is always adeguate between the worst band around 40dB to over 50dB down on most bands.
