No longer in production or supported  Time owned: more than 12 months
ROC for Kantronics is no longer available through W4PC or the HRD team and they will no longer provide any support, even to paid customers. ROC was the last Host Mode software that was still available on the market for Kantronics TNCs.

The good news for Kantronics TNC owners is that there is a multitude of free terminal programs that allow your TNC to work as a normal TNC in terminal mode.

Not trivial to configure  Time owned: 0 to 3 months
Installed demo version on Windows7 64 bit. Planned to buy it and use it with my vintage KAM+ v8.2. Had to load a work around Windows Help file reader. No problem. Got in to RTTY mode once but was unable to transmit. Listened to CW okay. I set an option for coming up in HF NON-Packet mode on start up but it wouldn't do that. Every time I made a change an annoying bell rang and a pop up window said changes would take effect after restarting the program. When I inadvertently put a com port in for the radio control without having it hooked up, the software got in a loop, telling me comm error, comm port not found, turn radio on and click . had to basically kill the program to get out. The program stopped running several times and windows offered to search for a fix. Unfortunately most of the old simple terminal programs that worked good with multi-mode data controllers won't install on Windows NTFS drives. I guess I could partition a slice of my hard drive and format it FAT-32 and install PorComm+ there. I was hoping to find a "modern" multi-mode program for Windows7 64bit that would talk to a KAM+ and be simpler.

Top of the line software  Time owned: more than 12 months
This is great software that delivers the top performance of the Kantronics TNC. ROC Digital Desktop tames the KAM-XL with a simple install and setup to get up and running with no hassle at all. I run this software 24/7 on VHF packet mode and it is without a doubt a stable environment. It makes Pactor mode on HF a breeze to operate, no stress no mess, just fun to operate. Rick Ruhl has developed ROC into a solid package. He is great to deal with and a true professional in this field. Great software and great support, could not ask for anything better for HAM radio. You will not be disappointed with ROC Digital Desktop.
