Unbelievable good transceiver  Time owned: more than 12 months
Starting with SAT and then HX version for mor than two years.

In the car with diesel engine. This is the only radio where NB works as designed. Other 100 W, compact transceivers with deatchable front panels couldn't wipe off an engine electric noise. Chock baluns on every cable connected to the radio, ferrite beds on pumps steering wires. Nothing. The higher the frequency, the higher electric noise... except in TS-480. Pushing noise blanker and engine is heard but not from the speaker. NB works great!

Options in the menu are carefully chosen. What require spending some more time to set, to test, to check is in the menu. What's often needed it's under front buttons. Two types of noise reduction (dsp) works fine. I like to use it in a car. This transceiver seems designed for this kind of operation.

It was so good and so friendly in every day usage, that I decided to have another one in my shack. Equipped with 1,8 ssb filter (helpful, but not a must) and 250 Hz CW making a big difference. What icom 756 pro III hears this small TS hears too?! Yes, I've checked it. Even manuals show higher sensitivity of TS on higher bands.

I began to participate in cw contests from Jan this year. Sometimes a strong spletter covers the station I like to hear. So I've checked how it is on icom... the same. You can believe it or not, but twin pbt and filters in icom couldn't do anything more with the covered signal. Lowering a with of audio signal (in TS) to 100 Hz does not improove the cw signals, but cut the spletter (if the spletter does not cover completely desireble station being listened)

Audio reports? What to say... kenwood simply (the best :-) ) with a standard hand mike. Internal in and out equalizer helps to refine incoming and outgoing audio. It is not a gadget. It helps

The only lack, I feel in this small TS is "dual watch" function.

Clear, honest 5.
