Versatile & Reliable  Time owned: 0 to 3 months
This is the second TS-480HX I've owned, and it's just as good as I remember.
In fact it deals with man made interference much more effectively than the FT-950 or the TS-590 and others which employ IF DSP.
Switching in the DNL gave a huge reduction in noise generated from various sources in this neck of the woods.
The Noise Reduction could be fine tuned to mop up interference beyond the scope of the DNL and or NB most effectively.

Many complaints about low average output have been fairly levelled at Kenwood rigs, this goes back a long way, as I recall the TS-940 had the same issue which required modification, read component change, to effectively remedy the matter.
This is a design decision by Kenwood, and while the 480 does have low average output, or, as some refer to it, low talk power, my rig produces 215w PEP measured into a dummy load and PEP reading meter via two tone injection.

For ragchew this lazy output is not a problem for me, for DX I'll hook up the TenTec or Datong RF Speech Processor as these units liven things up nicely. The built in speech processor also works very well when set up correctly and using the standard mic. Audio quality on TX can be excellent with any of the above units, particular care must be taken with the TenTec 715 or it will sound lamentable.

So, what we have here is a versatile, ruggedly reliable workhorse that may be used in the field,
mobile or in the shack and deliver the goods all day long without getting hot and bothered.
It's not perfect by any means, what rig is, but I like it very much and recommend it to anyone.
Product is in production.
