GREAT+AWSOME+BEST Radio!  Time owned: more than 12 months
I got my radio in the summer of 1994.
It is an awsome radio, I really can't say more about it (you can read all the other reviews).

One thing, about a week ago, the radio went deaf. I remember being told that most HT's have this problem, basically the BNC connecter disconnects from the circuit board inside the radio case.
All I did was open the radio up and I found a crack in the solder that connected made the connection. So all I did was touch that part with a soldering iron, and the problem was fixed.

I was curious and looked for another HT, but none of them seemed as good as my 530. What can I say, I love my 530!!!

The reason why teh BNC connecter gets detached is because high-use hts have a lot of stress on the connector. Taking antennas on and off, havin the rubber duck pressed against you body if you wear it on a belt. etc. etc.

Over all, when I purchased this radio, I figured it will be the last high power HT I'd buy... I was correct. It does everying I need plus some.

I do own a Q7A, HTX-200, and HTX-400... but they are my low power, throw in my pocket/briefcase radios.

The ft-530 has been dropped a few times, and there are 2-3 cracks on it. I am quite careful with it now.

It does RX VHF/VHF or VHF/UHF or UHF/VHF which is very nice. (i.e. I could monitor a local repeater while monitoring WX)

Having full duplex is great, I've used full duplex about 2-3 times, but it is great when you need it.

It does have cross band repeat... this is great when you need it.

I prefer a BNC connector over the new SMAs.

It is too bad they don't these kind of radio anymore.

Why did I give it a 5.. because it was the highest number.

Product is in production.
