Speak Out: Your Favorite Radio:
A contributor asks, "What one transceiver did you have, now no longer in production, would you purchase again if it were back on the market? It would be exactly as originally manufactured. No extra bells and whistles added though improved components would be allowed."

FT-1000D. (still have one and it stacks up well to slightly more modern radios)
Runners-up:
>Kenwood TS-850SAT - great radio if you want to be loud.
>FT-1000 Mk-V - incredible bang for the buck
>Drake TR4-C, Icom IC-740 - sentimental favorites
>Tuna-Tin II - a heart-warming little WB9QVR-built radio.

The Ten Tec Century 21 as it was my first Novice rig. Rag chewing on 40M was a lot of fun and "DX'ing" on 15 was a blast.

I own a trusty old Kenwood TS-840S and an Icom IC-746Pro. The Kenwood is a great unit, great noise blanker. The 746Pro is also a great rig, but I think is a little weak in the transmitter. The audio of both is excellent. I like to do AM BC Dxing, and both are good. The 940S has the factoy 6 kHz. filter. With an outboard DSP unit, the JPS NR-12, it's as good as the 746 Pro, and puts out a solid 120 Watts.

FT900 - Great mobile rig = detachable head -
with a N.B. and notch that worked very well...
The best part was you could change the
functions while driving without taking your
eyes off the road... R.I.P. - nice radio.

Kenwood TS-930s - have had mine since 1984, rock solid performance, excellent receiver, runs rtty with true fsk, and now at the age of 25 has exceeded the life of my prior radios, all the features I need, basically just love it!!!
