Speak Out: Questions Answers and Attitudes
A contributor asks, "Is it possible for someone to post a question without getting answers to questions not asked? We've all seen examples of this, followed by the predictable answer "pile up." Newbie says, "How high should I mount my G5RV? What is the best angle for the wires to slope down?" No one says, "Mount it at least 35' above the ground and drape the ends at around 20 degrees." -- Of course not. WAY too easy. Instead, comes criticism of the G5RV, SWR myths, "and you posted this in the wrong category" and let's not forget, "the no-code thing has totally screwed up this hobby." Contained in the minds of the experienced hams is a huge library of information. But the librarian would appear to be on vacation. Why don't we offer "wisdom" more intelligently?"

I'M GLAD L.SMITH HAS BEEN DOING AND GREAT JOB DESPITE CYCNICAL GOSSIP!
GIVE HER THE THANKS SHE DESERVES GUYS IN AND VERY SLOW BUREAUCRATIC MESS.
THESE "LIDS' ARE ONE OF THE REASONS BESIDES THE SO-CALLED PRESENT DAY EXCUSES OF AESTHETICS WHY MANY HAMS CAN'T PUT UP HALF- WAY DECENT ANTENNA SYSTEMS. YOU USE TO NEVER HEAR OF STEALTH ANTENNAS EXCEPT FOR WHAT YOU SAW IN WW2 AND COLD WAR SPY MOVIES.
Cudos to Laura Smith FCC-EB!
MANY THANKS AND KEEP IT UP!
ALSO, THANKS, 73' AND CUDOS TO THOSE USING THE COMPLAINT FORMS TO TAG THESE GUYS...
ABOUT TIME SOME CAME TO THE PLATE! DEFINITELY,IT DOESN'T HAVE TO END THERE.

I don't know that if many of you fellow hams realize this but as 10 and now 12 meters gets more active so do these freebanding bootleggers and the truckers who give themselves voluntarily and quite freely more "channels" to operate. They are watching the next solar cycle too-remember this!
Also, the sellers of all this illegal "junk" makes more monery and could care less about what we have to deal with.

Quit griping and start making waves!
There is power in numbers just like their power for them to do it to us by crossing the line into our spectrum and making bad pr for guys wanting put up real antennas for their and so on.
There is forms to easily fill out at FCC-EB and they prefer you use them instead of the mail.It will be automatically is directed and forward to the proper field agent(s)organizations at the FCC-EB
At this URL below if it is related to illegal violation(s) of Sections 302(b) & (c)on illegal uncertified or modified radios and linears being sold on Internet and in a regular store or both file here and click the Box titled "Other" on type of complaint.
URL>
https://esupport.fcc.gov/sform2000/formF!input.action
It allows only #one-thousand characters in complaint area desription. Be very direct and don't make it a gripe but be a little semi-politicallya complainant in very smart way like a cop would giving you and ticket.Proof read it. It's not a very big complaint desription box so take your time.
Tell what they sell and paste or type in the main URL's for starting point, adrs, # numbers, etc for them to view.Make sure your internet URL's and email info is 100% accurate. If store has a certain quantity -tell it. If they have umlimited depending on supply and demand-tell it!
Mention the models like Davemade, Texas Star, Palomar,Stroker Amps, Galxy 2-digit series like Galaxy DX99 or 99 V etc...The Galaxy 3-digits are FCC-OET certified by the way except if they're illegally modifed expanded or hi-wattages. YToui got the idea. Then there is Stryker 10m,Galaxy 10 m,RCI-Ranger 10m,Northpoints,Magnums, Connex and so on..Anything mostly called 10m CB or such..If your not sure mention it anyway-You never know sometimes if they were o'kay by the FCC-OET labs.
Nows the next important and a easy step...Then whenyou feel your main description is finished hit enter enter and then you'll receive and on-line complaint receipt form. IMPORTANT!Keep that and paste it into and file on your computer or print it outtoo. All the complaints for 2010 start with for example 10-C00XXXXX ie. Followed with few suffix numbers Like for eg... 10-C012345. Keep that-It's very, very important for future references when you need to send in your real gripe with more deatiled information on all the stores inventory and more URL's, adrs, #phone numbers, names, type of equipment sold, etc.. Important and remeber this too .Only file on #one specigfic target store at a time for each complaint! You send your important additional information afterwards with that complaint receipt you received filing on-line pasted on email at this email adr guys: fccinfo@fcc.gov.
Put in subject line additional information for 10-C001234 Filed on Internet and then put yoour additional information on email form. It's again not rocket science and not hard guys. Just do it!You pay taxes don't you! You put your name on the tax form.
Now, after awhile as time flies by this very slow by the commissions process you might or might not receive another confirmation via the US Mail. Most of the time you will get and conmfirmation from FCC "bigsho"t. Then after about #9 months...Yes! 9 months if you don't see anything posted on FCC-EB site make complaint to your Senator or US Rep. or email this Steven VanRoekel at the FCC. He is up the ladder. Way up! With that complaint number ask why nothing has been done about your complaint. What gives and why hasn't it been acted upon. I'd like to know something. It's your right for this is and Govt agency man just like the IRS doesn't send your tax refund like you desrve. Don't mention the company. Just the complaint #. I got this from hi-source and leave it at that guys.
On illegal radio operations of FCC Violation of Section 301 file on the Form 2000E in same manner...
Form 2000E
https://esupport.fcc.gov/sform2000/formE!input.action?form_page=2000E
These aren't rocket science and don't be afraid of putting your name on the line guys . You vote don't you! You file taxes. Take driving tests. This is much easier. Instead of griping atyour local coffee shops and ham meetings and depending on others to answer your to your gripes about all this stuff you just do it for real. Take your own action for and change. It won't be the FCC at your doo-" It will be there's"! They'll(bootleggers & freebanders) keep doing this til there is a number of complaints to flow in.Someone will have to finally cave and notice. It will happen..Just do it. Now you have no excuses unless you become SK!

Forums are what we make them. Some people are fine with dreadful replies or get a kick out of insulting people.I think these people are idiots and I avoid them.I try to answer questions as directly as possible, and gear the reply to the level of knowledge the question represents.I also recommend reading some good books on the subject at hand.
As far as truth online goes,I sure miss Cebic.I corresponded with him about a model he ran...I built it and it is a great antenna.I wish only I could have met him in person, he was a treasure and a real gentleman to correspond with.IE: There are good sources online.
I think the attacks paint the entire community badly....outsiders wanting to learn more could be scared away.I was discussing this today with a couple of prospects. The attitudes that might be encountered and not to give up.Shortly, I am going downstairs to DX and I will have one of the guys with me.I hope he gets "bit".

Speak out ends with "Why don't we offer "wisdom" more intelligently?"
Wisdom? eHam.net? Wisdom? More intelligently?
Confucius said, "Do not seek wisdom in the video arcade."
A collection of good textbooks is the world's best technical university.
---------------------------------------------
You may get one or two good answers, you also get a space charge of random noise.
And some times we need to ask further questions before we can dispense wisdom...
But better to read and learn to understand.
G0GQK on 2009-12-20
I haven't ventured into this deparment before but I must agree with the complainant. Whst I do find extremely irritating is when a person asks a question, the first person to respond asks "how high is it", "what kind of wire" "Which way does the wind blow" "what size shoes do you wear" instead of answering the question. Idiot !

Well its pretty simple why hams don't get simple effective answers..Big ego! Most of us are a bit on the different side or we wouldn't be hams in the first place. Couple that with a repressed need for recognition and you have a recipe for lots of crap with little substance..Its a part of the human condition..

This seems to be a forum in search of a topic.
What was the question?
WW0H on 2009-11-28
The only stupid question is the one not asked. Sure, if a ham is a tech and studied for the test that should be known. But to point it out is far from making the new ham feel welcome.
