My local ARC has been hounding me for years to join, so they can instantly make me an officer or something like that. My answer to that is an old W.C. Fields line, " I don't wish to be a member, of any club that would have ME, as a member."

The one ham formula that will get you on the air anywhere, 468 divided by the desired operating frequency. Know it, use it, love it.

Operating the W7DXX remote has been a great addition to my hobby. There was also an unexpected benefit. A strong sense of community.

....What is this "Listening up 1 to 5"?.... pick a freq and listen on it instead of qrming several kcs worth of spectrum. Listen "up 2" or whatever, but not a variance that just serves to qrm others nearby.

Q signals come from the old land-line telegraph. They were a form of shorthand. They just came over when we went wireless.

Crystal filter from junk box !!! for a ham it is a golden frame to build a castle of transceiver around it.

If you take a radio apart and put it back together enough times, you'll end up with enough spare parts to make another one!

Remember when "noise level" meant static(QRN)rather than digital hash from computers and HDTV's?

QRP Amplifier is an oxymoron.

I once heard that there is no perfect antenna and that ALL antennas are a compromise in one way or another. In my mind the PERFECT antenna is the one you have now, that fits YOUR purpose, and that gets you on the air. So, quit stressing over the last 1/2 db of gain and get on the air and talk to someone

"When did Elmer's die"? I quit helping one new ham because he was too lazy to read the operating manual for his rig. Told him I would be glad to help him understand if he tried, but he just wanted me to tell him how to do all of the set up!

Why are so many new hams using "over" at the end of each transmission, even on FM? Do they not realize how green this makes them sound?

When we use "q" signals or CW shortcuts on phone, we are paying tribute to those that came before. May we never lose touch with our heritage.

Remember when relay racks actually had relays in them?
