This is a wonderful system that provides PSK 'beacon style' reports from around the world. Any computer on the internet can see how propagation is even withoutengaging in PSK. Anyone using the PSK mode in Digital Master 780 (part of the Ham Radio Deluxe suite - free) can become a monitor. The way this works iswhen the DM780 PSK Supper Browser is being used (with PSK Reporter turned on) the software searches for the text string 'de [call sign] [all sign] and thensends a report over the internet. The software requires the 'de' and call sign twice to know what station is transmitting and to verify the call sign was correctly received.
On any computer you can then call up the PSK Reporters web page and see what stations monitoring PSK have picked up a particular call sign. You can also picka monitoring station, possibly close to your QTH and see what stations PSK signals are being received and what bands are open. (I am tending to leave myreceiver on monitoring 20m in daytime and 40M at night).
Remember, that with PSK's small bandwidth a 25 watt signal is probably about equivalent to a kilowatt on SSB.
Simon Brown HB9DRV is to be congratulated for his HRD Suite and DM780. Link: http://www.ham-radio-deluxe.com/

PSKReporter also works with fldigi, which is the only digimode program that runs on Windows XP, Vista, MacOS and Linux. It's also free at http://www.w1hkj.com (or simply select Amateur Radio applictions from your Ubuntu or Fedora Linux "Add Programs" menu). Leigh/WA5ZNU |

I have been using PSK Reporter for a few months now, mainly to determine where the openings are but also to get a feel for where my signals are 'landing' so to speak. This is useful in determining if your signal is 'getting out' when there aren't any answers to your CQ calls but it's also just interesting to be able to get a visual indication of where you're being heard. As long as other 'monitors' are hearing you without actually needing to work them, (i.e., your signal is appearing in their waterfall) then your spot information gets uploaded and you can see the results instantly on Google maps via the PSKreporter web site. A very useful utility, but also fun! Vy 73 de Mark, EI7IS ..._._ |
