The Teller County Sheriff (The County Seat is Cripple Creek, Colorado) has put a link to Amateur Radio on the front page of its web site. It is a link called 'Getting on the Air with Amateur Radio'.
https://www.tellercountysheriff.com/
It is right next to the County's evacuation plan called: "Ready, Set, Go." That is a program that the International Association of Fire Chiefs ( http://www.wildlandfirersg.org) has developed for wildfire evacuation education.
The adjoining county, El Paso County, Colorado Springs, CO, also uses that model.
Smaller communities are using MURS (Multi-Use Radio Service) for local citizens to get information. See the Crystal Park Volunteer Fire Department's plan at:

Connecting with your County's Emergency Management Manager could allow you to get similar recognition for your club.

And today, a lengthy and nicely written piece in the paper about weather spotters and not a word about Ham Radio weather nets - PSHAW! Reply to a comment by : W0WCA on 2020-01-06 Now for the front page of the Gazette . . . |
