Don’t let older people get near you when you are transmitting because they may have an implanted medical device, like a defibrillator or pace maker.
You can check your RF Safety on the VK9RK RF Safety calculator at:

Be Alone on the Beach.
Don’t operate near low power lines or during lightning storms.

| I watched a guy just like that walk right underneath and into an overhead power line at the Dayton Hamvention some years ago. Lucky for him, nothing happened, but he was talking on his radio and paying absolutely no attention to anything around him. If that power line had been a pair of parallel bare wires it could have been really colorful... Reply to a comment by : K6UJ on 2020-11-17 Is this a joke ? | Very good info. Someone you approach may not have any idea what your radio is or that it radiates or how strongly and frequency. So they may not sense danger even if they are careful around microwave ovens and other common devices they know to watch out for. And you should evaluate your own exposure too. Years ago the hat clip pigtails for a HT rubber duck were all the rage. "WOW! My antenna is now up a couple extra feet and away from the mass of my body and other waste level stuff." But is the 5 watts on 440 a couple inches away from my ear canal and brain OK? Is an HF antenna parallel to and close to my spine OK when I'm pedestrian mobile?
