Yaesu Announces FT-70DR 5W 2M/70CM C4FM:

Today, Yaesu announced the FT-70DR, a 5W Dual- Band C4FM Handheld. The FT- 70DR is a compact System Fusion transceiver providing both conventional analog FM operation and the advanced C4FM Digital mode.

Other standard features and functions of the FT- 70DR include;

  • IP54 Rating (Dust/ Water Protection) construction
  • Wide band receive coverage of 108 579.995MHz
  • Versatile Scanning Capabilities such as Programmable VFO Scan
  • Memory Scan
  • Priority Channel Scan
  • External DC Jack for DC Supply Operation and to Charge the Battery
  • Mini USB port for convenient programming and software updates
  • CTCSS/ DCS Operation
  • Automatic Power Off (AFO) feature
  • RF Squelch
  • Transmitter Time Out Timer (TOT)
  • Busy Channel Lock-Out (BCLO)

Looks like a worthy replacement for the FT60. I wonder if it will have AA-battery capability like the FT60 is famous for.

I hope this one IS NOT a wide band receive else the dreadful intermod that plagues these HT's will continue until that someone in R&D finally gets fired!

So this is just a FT1 minus GPS?

Wonder if it also sucks the battery dead when turned OFF like the FT1 and the worst FT2?

It appears the emissions mode on this (Modulation Type) are F2D, F3E , and F7W.

The FT-1DR, FT-1XDR and FT-2DR as well as the FTM-100DR, FTM-400XDR, and FTM-400DR all support these modes, but also support F1D. Does anyone know what the F1D mode is and why it was dropped in this model and how that impacts C4FM (Fusion)?
