An excellent article and worth reading.

As Dr. Rappaport (N9NB) shows, the fundamental openness of amateur radio is being attacked by those intent on transforming it into a digital platform for free email by radio.

Open, fully decodable digital codes are needed so that we can do as the FCC has required of us: oversee and monitor all that is transmitted over the air.

Elimination of proprietary digital codes and compression techniques that make it impossible for third parties to monitor and decode content in an ongoing QSO.
