Text taken from the UI-View newsgroup:

It is with deep regret that I wish to inform everyone that Roger Barker, G4IDE, passed away peacefully in his sleep during the early hours of 9 September, and is now a silent key.

For those who wish to send a card of condolence to Dee and the family, the address is:

Mrs Dee Barker and Family,
79 South Parade
Boston.
Lincolnshire. PE21 7PN
UK

For those who may wish to send condolences:

The funeral of Roger, G4IDE, will take place at Boston Crematorium on Wednesday 15 September.

His family would be honoured to have any radio amateur, who wishes to do so, attend the ceremony.

Full directions to the crematorium can be found at the following web site:

http://www.boston.gov.uk/web042000/crematorium/

In view of the large number of tributes from over the pond, it is rather fitting that the crematorium is not too far from where the Founding Fathers started their epic journey to Plymouth, and thence to the Americas, to found what is now known as the USA.

Roger will be very sadly missed, always ready to help, a genuine contributor to the advancement of the hobby.
Sad to see so little response from Amateurs here and in the U.S. and elsewhere considering the number of people using both Winpack and Ui-View.
Until UI-View, the packages written for APRS use had been at best "clunky", Roger single-handedly turned it into an almost indispensible application.
Not only for the dedicated APRS users, but also for Amateurs whom had no previous interest.

Check the UI-View newsgroup for hundreds of tributes that have been posted. Also, some folks have created a G4IDE signature using the UI-View worldmap by locating objects around the world to honor Roger's life and contributions.

Thanks to those that contributed to this tribute.

I have added a beacon comment on may station honoring Roger's passing.

A class act through and through. Whether in the skill of his coding or his attitude toward and contributions to his fellow amateurs and the hobby. I'm sorry to hear of his passing, but I'll think of him every time I fire up Winpack.

ATLANTIC TRIBUTE By UI-View User To G4IDE Roger Bakers
I have watched the Atlantic Tribute unfolding all day. It has
been on my screen for most of today.

What a FANTASTIC and FITTING tribute to a GREAT MAN and AMATEUR

VERY WELL DONE EVERYBODY.

I am sure that Dee and the Family have seen it and I hope fully
realise now the ESTEEM in which ROGER was held WORLDWIDE by the rest
of us lowly fellows.
