I get scam attempts regularly and avoid them by doing the following:

1. If you can't call them, don't send them money. You call the person on a phone number that is in the State they are in. Don't count on them calling you since there is no way to confirm their location.
2. If the email doesn't match QRZ, don't send them money. Ensure that the email address is the same as that on QRZ.com.
3. Take the extra step to look up the person on 411 and call them. They won't be offended.
4. Only send money in the name of a Ham or confirmed person. Check the issuing agency website in your country to confirm they are a licensed ham.
5. Search Google for the name and email address to see if any other scams show up.
6. Look for inconsistencies and trust your instincts. If you feel something is wrong, don't send any money.

Remember, don't trust someone calling you if they refuse to give you their phone number.

Remember, don't send money in another person's name other than the ham.

I hope this helps
