CEASE and desist all communiques with this low life and plz go back to site where you first met him/her and alert others.

Sorry you had to go thru this, but glad you caught it in time before something serious happened.

SCAMMERS

SOLD!The following is included in a current eHam listing:

'If the seller won't take PayPal...it's for 1 reason only!!!! They are scamming you!'

I sell some stuff here on eHam and I don't accept PayPal, which I clearly state in my listings. Does this mean I am a scammer?

It is not uncommon for a buyer to pay with PayPal, and then work a reverse scam on the seller. Claim the item never arrived; was not what was advertised; arrived damaged; trash the item and demand a refund; remove parts and demand a refund; return a different item; etc.

Well, you get the drift, be ye scammer or be ye scammed. And, be ye forewarned.

A 'red flag' flashes whenever someone won't buy an item I have listed unless I accept PayPal. When this happens, I walk away and don't look back, which appears to annoy some.

If you buy any equipment via personal check
or MO you have NO, ZERO, ZILCH protection
from someone who sells you crap. Yes, most
folks are honest and sell you a well described
an honest piece, but many are not! Yes, some
buyers take advantage of Paypal and file
wrong claims. However, as a BUYER I will
walk away from ANY sale that does not offer
PayPal as one of the options. It is as easy as
that. Feel free to take the risk with checks and
MO.

Don't Do IT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I'm sorry if I offended anyone who won't take PayPal and NO....that doesn't make you a scammer! I have edited my post and this is more about what I just went through and thanking the users who took the time to post the woman's name I was instructed to send a wire transfer to. I might have been out a buttload of $$$$ if I hadn't found posts regarding the scammer I was dealing with.

I have been looking for a certain expensive satellite radio for a long long time and although I knew better, I posted a WTB: here which really brought out the scammers. I have missed 3 of the legit radios on QRZ over the last 9 months due to bad timing. Well I get an e-mail from a seller who has a fully loaded only driven to church on Sundays radio. He claims it has every option and has barely been turned on...etc... It's his low price that set off the first red flag. The photo he sends I know I've seen before and a quick google search using the file name leads me to the same photo used here on eHam ad dating back to 01/14. The seller has already told me he purchased the radio brand new and here it is on this very site for sale from another ham almost 2 years ago. That was red flag number 2! But I give him the benefit of doubt that he has purchased the radio from the seller here and is just lying about purchasing it brand new and is too lazy to take his own photo which by the way doesn't have any call sign showing. I question him about that and he now super imposes a call sign for the ham he's playing in the same phony photo. I then talk to this guy on the phone and his English doesn't match the license name he's using whatsoever. Red flag #3. I ask him what his Paypal address is and guess what...he won't take any type of payment except a bank wire transfer...LOL. Now I'm going along to see how far he'll go with this scam and I get the transfer name which is his wife...only she lives 6 states away and has a different last name?? Red flag #4. A quick google of "Kathleen Anne Wolfe" brings up multiple postings regarding scams and the first 2 are on eHam!

Don't do it! If the seller won't take PayPal...it's for 1 reason only!!!! They may be scamming you! Unless you're 100% positive about your seller and what you are purchasing, don't send a money order, certified check, personal check, cash or any type of bank wire for any amount! I got 3 offers for this hard to find radio in 3 days and all 3 wouldn't take PayPal! Probably the same people behind all 3. Why this hobby has so many scammers is beyond me...maybe because most of us are Old Farts who may not know any better??

Thanks to all who take the time to report SCAMS!

TenTec 1208

They are using Larry T. Williams too. I got him to accept a lower price on a TenTec 1208 he offered. I had a want for one here on eHam. He gave no ham call in his emails and the picture he sent was a copy of a TenTec 1208 off the internet. He wanted a USPS money order. Here is his last reply: Your address have been noted down for shipping in here. You can proceed payment through USPS money order to the name and address below name: Maryjo Mellor address: 5700 windy gorge street Las vegas , Nevada 89149 After payment get back to me a scan copy of the Money order slip as I will proceed shipping in here. Fortunately I looked up the address on eham under scams. There it was. Sent him a email saying I would not send money to a alternate address and that the address he sent me is associated with a scam. So no $ and take a hike. Be careful as this scammer is using a various names but seems to always use the Maryjo Mellor address for where to sent the money.

No PayPal? You are asking for trouble!

Why would would anyone send a MO or
personal check to a stranger for $1000s of
dollars with no safety or security attached.
Look at the listings where folks want big
money and don't accept PayPal. Ask yourself,
why don't they accept Paypal. The standard
answer is the 3% charge. That is nonsense
since they can build into the asking price. The
other reason is that PayPal protects the buyer
and if you get a crappy piece of equipment
you have a chance getting some or all of your
money back. If they don't accept PayPal walk
away unless you like to throw your money
away. I wish eHam would change their policy!

CAUTION!! ka6cop and ke6pb calls have been hijacked as have the legit email acct.'s These hams would have been in their 80's so possibly deceased. Scammer will try to sell non existant radios by stealing a previous description and pictures from ham swap sites. Then applies for UPS shipper on line but no package ever exists.

BEWARE!! K9HVO's call is being used by a scammer that can only be identified as Kathy Anne Wolfe.

Below is a list of things you can do to protect yourself to not be taken:
- Check e-mail headers from supposed seller
- X-Originating-IP XXX.XXX.XXX.XXX <- This should be roughly close to the IP or service provider shown in the add.
- Online tool used to verify: http://centralops.net/co/
- Always get the seller's phone number and call it to verify.
- If you are paranoid do an area code lookup and if different use that as a verification during your call.
- Make sure you are talking to a live person
- Ask detailed questions concerning the purchase.

Many thanks,
Bob - My Reply

Bob - I am in NO WAY interested
in your meter.
I am only looking for one slug as
I already have a meter.
I would NEVER pay using Western
Union or Money Gram as they offer
no protection for the buyer or
seller.
I question why you never offered
your call-sign so I can look you
up in the FCC database.
The picture you included has
someone else's name and call sign
on it.
And I also noticed that when you
created your gmail address you
misspelled your own name.

This may not be a scam, but there
are so many alarm bells going off
I have to say: So - thank you no.
