I bought my Yaesu FT 7800R radio and noticed that they only give you about 5 inches on lead wire for the remote face plate, how nice of them, hahaha

I refuse to pay 100 dollars (separation kit) for a simple mounting plate and a few cables so can anyone tell me where to get the wire to extend the remote face plate?

Thanks

I’m located just north of Toronto.

Cheers

Its actually a very thick looking phone cable

6 contact points

I was cautioned to make sure its the right cable or it could do damage

Check out my install of my 8800. The cable is made out of standard "flat" 6 conductor telephone cable that had the end connector modified. From the store, these cables are not straight wired, so all you have to do is cut off one end and rewire/recrimp it so that it matches the other end. There are easier ways of doing this, I just wanted it to look cleaner.

Thanks for the info

I read an thread on yahoo user groups regarding this and it was suggested to go out and buy the 6 pin male/female extension cable, then get an adaptor male/female adaptor hook the male end to the male end of the adaptor, and the then the female end to the adaptor so you now have the male end going to your radio, and another to the remote.

Would I be correct in this??

I know its not the cleanest way but apparently it works.
