"MWR" privileges
« on: December 07, 2014, 01:55:30 PM »

I apologize for being cryptic, but if you understand the acronyms, then you can probably
answer the following question: What is the chain of command procedure for an active MARS
operator to be issued a "CAC" that allows "MWR" priv's at a designated government facility?

Bob, MARS members are not authorized to be issued a Common Access Card.  However, DOD Instruction 4650 delineates the MWR privileges available to MARS members, specifically:  "All MARS members can be considered for benefits associated with DOD civilian service, such as access to DOD Morale, welfare, and recreation Category C recreational facilities in accordance with DOD Instruction 1015.10, credit unions associated with the Department of Defense, and military ceremonies."  Hope this answers your question.  Paul

CAC cards:

Here, they are issued at the Pearl Harbor/Hickam Pass and ID office. 2 ID needed, however I was issued one only because I am retired DOD civilian and still on their personnel computer.

I didn't have any problems getting the CAC CARD when I retired from CIVIL SERVICE in 2010.    It also gets me back into the base if I need to go but that always bothered me using things there that might be utilized by the military folks assigned there.  never been back haha...

I have stayed at our local military camp ground at PAX RIVER and also one in ALA associated with the AFB at Montgomery ALA.

There is a problem however that you have to plan for at times.  You can be kicked out if they run out of room and Military Folks show up and need a camping spot...  Never has happened to me yet but could I guess...

My neighbor (Retired Civil Service type) here goes and uses the on-base auto shop all the to change his oil and stuff.  He has also checked their camping trailer and stayed at PAX RIVER a couple of times...   That would going abit too far for me haha  I guess it is all legal to do...

I got trapped one time in the wrong lane that was feeding a base and ended up at the gate - I just showed my CAC card and they waved me through...   Then I turned around and came out haha...

I get more use out of my SENIOR PASS for NATL PARKS and FED RECREACTIONAL LANDS PASS.   This gets us into the park and then also gets us a 50% discount on the cost of the camping spot.
