IC-7200 Remote Operating
« on: December 25, 2014, 08:30:39 AM »

Hi.  I unexpectedly acquired a new Icom IC-7200 directly from Icom.  I am considering setting it up as a remote base that I can access from other rooms in the house, and when I am not home.  If I could use an iPad for control, that would be an big plus. In the shack, I currently use the most recent version of HRD on a Win 7 64 bit machine if that is a factor. I have a fast internet connection and WiFi on my local network as well.

Is the IC-7200 a good candidate for remote operation?  What are my options to get this to work?  I have no experience with remote operation, so I know zero about it.

Thanks for the assistance.

You might consider using the ICOM RS-BA1 software that is designed for remote operation, more so than HRD.
Just a suggestion.

Thanks for the suggestion about the RS-BA1.  Unfortunately, that solution requires a PC on both ends.  I am currently looking at COMMCAT. It offers remote operation using iOS mobile devices. I've downloaded the program on the shack computer and have the iOS interface on my iPad.  Hopefully, it will fit the bill.  Looks promising.
