"Portable" section?
« on: January 12, 2015, 06:58:54 PM »

This may be a long shot but I thought I might request the addition of a "Portable" section for discussion of operating out of a backpack, from a bike, etc.  The "Mobile" and "QRP" sections might touch on similar topics, but neither is necessarily the same thing as "Portable". 73.

I'm with you on this question, AD0GI. I am putting together a portable go-box for HF operation and need some tips. A separate portable section could cover gear such as batteries and solar as well as antennas and radios. I will motor to near a target site then lug gear to the site by foot so the Mobile section might have too many references to car batteries and screwdriver antennas. I'll see if there is a way to add a section to be ok'd by admin.

This is a great idea! The portabke ops genre is distinct from mobile ops. I'M finishing my first portabke station using Gator Cases..one with my barefoot/qrp equipment and another with an HF amp (ALS-500M), power supply and autotuner. I've got to work through power options, antennas, and so forth. Much of these issues would get somewhat lost in the existing Forums.
