IC-7410 MARS Modification
« on: March 12, 2015, 03:19:26 PM »

Hello all!

I am assembling a station for MARS use and purchased an ICOM IC-7410 to this end.  The stateside dealer stated they no longer performed MARS/CAP mods on radios purchased from them.  I have researched the web and found the PDF document on the mods.dk site (in fact that same document turns up in may places).  It seems plain enough but I can find no one who has PERSONALLY performed the procedure and can vouch for its accuracy.  I have the radio opened up on the bench but really don't want to proceed without a warmer, fuzzier feeling that the referenced PDF doc is "a winner".

I understand there may be an official MARS site or reference document out there that can at least give me a second source for information...do any of you know of such a place/thing?

I pick up the rest of the toys, I mean equipment, at the military post office tomorrow and would like to be fully mission capable ASAP so I can submit my application to the European POC by the end of next week.  Any help or direction you can provide will be greatly appreciated!

Most respectfully,

KE6MIY aka MARS operator in the making :)

Please send me an email and I will hook you up with a MARS guy who also runs the 7410...he will be able to assist you.  paul.a.english.civ@mail.mil  I also want to be sure that you are linked up with our leader in Germany.  Looking forward to hearing from you.

Thank you for the assistance.  Your POC confirmed the published data was valid and I successfully performed the mod last evening.  The radio now operates from 1.6-60MHz continuously.  As received, my particular radio required only the removal of one diode from the matrix to "open it up".

Thank you again!

Isn't the 7410 essentially a 746/746pro without 2 meters??  If this is so, hasn't there been numerous posts and discussions about how MARS is NOT recommended for these radios because of the output filtering and ICOM specifically saying that these radios are NOT suitable for MARS frequencies???

A popular site for a variety of modifications of many different radios: www.mods.dk  Disclaimer, I have no affiliation with the website and you do take your chances modifying any rig.....gud luk

No need to Lazarus this thread - it helps to check the posting dates before replying.
