Stuyvesant High School Radio Club 1974-1977
« on: April 19, 2015, 05:17:09 PM »

Hi....I was a daily member of the Stuyvesant High School Radio Club (W2CLE) from 1974-1977.

We had a BEAUTIFUL Galaxy GT-550 transceiver........I still love that radio.

I remember a few of the guys like Jack, Dave, Bill, etc.

Guys, are any of you out there?

Hi Stuy Guy - I was in the W2CLE shack/broom closet almost every lunchtime from 1956 to 1959. We had an old Halli HT-9 and some unmemorable receiver. I don't recall every making any QSOs - maybe there was no antenna....

I took Mr. Bender's P5 class my last semester. Still friends with one classmate/ham.

Wow, right at the end of the old Radio Row, a place I regularly visited.
My dad worked on Worth St for 42 years.

My first HS was Bishop Loughlin in Brooklyn 1954-55 where I learned the code and passed my Novice. Getting to 5 wpm was a killer but in 2 years I was doing 35 and still have the ARRL Certificate.

The "new" Stuyvesant (345 Chambers St) is much closer to where Radio Row was (WTC). The old one (345 15th St) was 2 or 3 stops on the local as I recall. I probably never counted the stops because I was busy counting the change in my pockets. I must have gone down there once a week for 3 years after school.
