Isn't it remarkable how 6 Meters manages to open for at least a few hours during Field Day?

Sure, summer is Sporadic E season and 6 is a Sporadic E kinda' band, but Six can be as dead as the chances of a President Trump for weeks before (and weeks after) the contest then spring to life in a heartbeat.  Huzzah!  It's a miracle, I say...  Or proof that listening for a band opening isn't as effective as calling for a band opening.   

My radio is filled with calls from both 4 and 9 Land this FD Sunday morning.  Heard some activity late Saturday afternoon as well.  Damn shame the Q's are all wham-bam thank ya' Old Man, but at least that's better than white noise......  Which I predict will return in abundance later today.

Why does politics have work it's way into everything. Don't you get enough everywhere else, does it need to be in the eham forums?

I don't have much knowledge about band conditions and the sun spot mumbo-jumbo, but have in my very short time on the air noticed that when there is no contest or event going on, seems like there is no-one on the air on 6-meters and 10-meters, but during the contest/event suddenly there's all sorts of contacts to be made.  I'm beginning to think the bands are not so much "dead" as there is no-one bothering to try to make QSO's, except when they can "get" something for it -- points on a contest log, etc.  Just my un-educated opinion.

Poltics on Eham is important because it helps reduce the ham population.
You have to figure half the population  votes Democrat and half Republican and it should be obvious that alienating half the population can only help our hobby. Who needs the other hams in our hobby?  
This appears to be the reasoning that goes into divisive comments.

If. We had a contest every day I bet we'd notice that the bands are open a lot more than we think.  I have often found no activity but wwv coming in loud and clear.
