PIC18F4550 microcontroller

Have a couple of prototype board for developing USB applications with a PIC18F4550 microcontroller made by Olimex. To program it, you can do this without any additional programmer. Is there available any program to load for ham applications?

In circuit serial programming is the way to go. Use a Pickit2 or 3 or a clone. However once you start playing with PIC's a ICD2 or 3 With MPLAB is the way to go. You can buy these programmer clones on Ebay pretty cheaply.

Actually the  PIC18F4550 microcontroller board by Olimex is meant, as far as I understand it, to be programmed via the USB port without any additional programmer. The idea is great, but where can I find a reliable repository of software for this PIC which may fit some hams needs? Eg. DDS controller, keyer, relay switches, sequencers etc.

Indeed good advises, programmed the PICs via a programmer to control DDS AD9951 !!!
