L.A. area VHF repeater recommendation
« on: December 24, 2015, 06:17:16 AM »

There are a ton of VHF repeaters in the L.A. area and I was wondering if anyone had any recommendations for the area I'll be in.  A repeater with good coverage of my area and that is fairly active. I won't really have the time to sit and program the radio to check all the different ones out there.  I'll be doing my weekend U.S. Coast Guard duty at Sector Long Beach (USCG station is in Long Beach fairly near the Queen Mary) for the first time and I'll also drop in to spend some time at Disneyland before heading back to my home state.  Thanks in advance for the recommendation.

Yeah, [147.435] it's "active" all right!!  LOL!!!  https://www.broadcastify.com/listen/feed/14747/web

In half an hour of listening to the alleged repeater at the above link, I have heard multiple cases of recorded music being played, looped audio clips, DTMF tones sent as QRM, a recorded Muslim call to prayer, taunts to the FCC, a complete lack of call sign use, and enough profanity where it would even make the regulars on 27.185 blush.....
