By typing in some of my old QSOs I picked up LoTW confirmations for Kure and Pratas.  Those two stand out but I'm sure there are others.

I concentrated on the rarer countries and left out many QSOs with common countries like Germany and Italy.  Just getting Kure and Pratas made it worthwhile although I did have QSLs so I would've got credit when I submitted my QSLs to my card checker.  The other day I got a LoTW match for a 1991 QSO.  I can't recall the country so it must not have been rare.  I was licensed in 1988 but my earliest LoTW match was 1990 or 1991.

So, no need to type in every QSO but I would concentrate on countries that would make the 100 most wanted list.

I did the very same... cherrypicking a few qso that I fed into LoTW.
Matches includes:
ZP5 @ 1985!
JW @ 1986
ZS8MI @ 1989

And quite a few in mid/late 90's... whish more would use LoTW, so much simpler than having paper QSL to be verified.

Talk about fast, probably less than 15 minutes QSO to LOTW A92GE for a new CW country on 20.

I too keep a paper log and just last night entered some QSOs to try to get LOTW credits for missing band slots (realized my QSL request was never answered).

Within minutes I had 3D2 and A6 confirmed on 80, 5N and T32 confirmed on 17, A4 and T8 confirmed on 15. LOTW is great, I wish everyone used it.

Nice story Paul! I, too, wish everyone would use LOTW. People don't know what they are missing till they try it themselves.

When folks only upload the QSO's they "need" that's a sign they haven't really drunk the LOTW Kool Aid yet. They've just barely sipped it, so they get some personal advantages, but they aren't sharing the advantages with everyone else.

LOTW works most effectively when everybody uploads everything all the time. It's true, that's asking a lot from a guy who only does paper logging. But maybe after they see some of the advantages they will switch to computer based logging and then upload everything.

BTW a lot of folks have obviously drunk the kool-aid by now, and that's good!

Sure, but at the moment, we are discussing someone with paper logs and possibly thousands of old, mostly dead QSOs, not stuff you did "today".

The benefits for all that older stuff, for everyone, are kind of marginal.  In many cases, if not most, the card has been in the shoebox for years (if wanted at all) and most awards (DXCC or anything else) related to those QSOs have long been claimed.  And, if you are some W in New York State, not many people need your QSO confirmed to start with.  If they did, they got your card years ago.

If someone is "up" for typing in all that stuff (one enterprising Ehamer found an on-line source to pay for the typing!), well, more power to whomever that may be.  For the rest, who may be barely or recently computerized, there's no point in discouraging them with the counsel of perfection.  They can get potentially interesting results with just the "important" QSOs however they define it (probably rare DXCC mostly) for not much effort.

Going forward, we can hope to persuade them of the benefits of uploading everything.  The past?  That's really up to them.

A very nice card in the mail this morning from 9H3ET from 2013, thats another one off the list.

Combine that with a very spicy card from BV7GC and a nice tropical picture from VP2MDG yesterday its been a good week.

Its hard going when you have been QRT for 20 plus years and changed continents.

I put a few pages that I had into the logger and then LOTW and got nothing back  ???, umm, managed to get hold of one station and queried the time, found that was 12 hours out, but still no match, I had applied the date line the wrong way and was 2 days out, so then had to edit them all.

AP2AI did a LoTW upload of Q's from 2000 - 2002. It gave e 4 challenge points.

Did you mean AP2IA?  I just received 3 LoTW credits from Ijaz, AP2IA.  A very nice surprise.

Thanks Gavin! I only wish I worked the contest the entire 48 hours instead of just only about 22 hours. The CONDX seemed OK and it was fun.  ;D
