There's a LoTW discussion forum at:

https://groups.arrl.org/g/ARRL-LoTW

Lots of opinions about the current problems and suggested remedies.

Reading some of the threads there - apparently some think they need more money for better servers.

Like we're not paying enough already?

For US stations if you want to actually have your QSO's count at their DXCC desk, you already have to pay for a yearly membership ($49), then an Application Fee, and a Credit Slip Fee, and the LoTW individual "credits" fee - per Application.

$49 plus almost $9 to get 3 added, wowza.

Any idea on LOTW processing time?  I uploaded a few hours ago and the qasr's still haven't showed up.  I uploaded before the WPX contest and it took several hours too.
There used to be a page where the processing time or que was displayed.  Now all I can find is my last upload processed.

This is the longest I've ever waited.  The contest was over Sunday. Who is uploading all these logs?

Who is uploading all these logs?

It's not just uploads, it's downloads too.  Every time someone's random application poles LoTW it takes up processor time.  Ever synch LoTW with Club Log?  Grid Tracker?  The downloads can be huge.  If you read through the posts on the LoTW forum you'll see the problem more clearly.  Compounded by the fact that LoTW apparently doesn't get routine maintenance and the fact that it's 20yrs old in its present configuration, it's at the end of its life cycle. IIRC it was written for Windows 95.  ARRL approved funds for an update, but it's gonna take awhile.

Also, there seems to be some logging programs that can be set to upload every QSO immediately after EACH QSO... which means all the overhead of uploading many, many more complete files for the same number of QSOs that most people used to wait and do once a day, end of a session, etc. I bet if these features were turned off and people waited to upload a group of QSOs, the wait times would improve drastically. Of course, if the LotW servers can be upgraded to keep up, I'm sure "instant QSLs" would be a big hit with a lot of folks.  ;)

This is being discussed on the groups.io ARRL LOTW group. Bob W5OV said it had to do with a log upload of 67,804 QSO’s all but one of which are unique call signs. There is a very detailed explanation there.

Interesting LOTW entries this morning:

Details   WO7R   ET3AA   2023-01-20 00:58:15   30M   FT8   10.13143   ETHIOPIA
Details   WO7R   ET3AA   2023-01-17 00:25:22   30M   CW   10.11500   ETHIOPIA

Not notable just for the fairly rare entity, but because I QSLed them and got the card before the LOTW.

Can't remember the last time that happened.

Has anyone tried smacking the top of it?

Or unplugging it, and plugging it back in again?

LotW confirm of ET3AA on 20M FT8 for a new digital band marker. For my weekly check of stats, LotW continues to be amazing.

Thank you,
I'll never see 3000, but I still have a lot of work to do on 6 and 160 meters. Another 100 or 200 is still possible.
