EmCom is a 2017 wireless version of the classic intercom used in the 1970's to communicate from the kitchen to the basement.

Sorry for not replying sooner...was distracted from this thread. EmComm is shorthand for Emergency Communications as in ARES (how's that for answering one mnemonic with another?). ARES is the Amateur Radio Emergency Service, part of the American Radio Relay League.
