Purchase price was £691M, or US$900M. Avnet beat out Swiss company Daetwyler Holdings at the last minute to buy Premier Farnell PLC.
I would guess that this will be the end of buying RPi machines via Newark.

Farnell is a parts supplier for industry. I know because I am a (happy) customer.
However, the article only states that they are a ditributor for the RPI, not that they are the manufacturers.

I know that Newark (aka "Element14") has been doing some really good marketing using the Raspberry Pi combined with free shipping offers and youtube videos to entice design engineers to try this technology out.
