Does anyone have the UART (GPIO-14,15) port on a Raspberry Pi
working with a radio serial CAT port? How about an Andriod?

Shouldn't be too difficult. You'll need to interface it with a MAX232 chip. Once you have the hardware set up, just configure hamlib to use ttyAMA0 and use the appropriate xml file for your radio. Note that you'll need to disable the console mode in raspiconf.

Hi all,
I'm also trying to get CAT working using the UART connections on the GPIO pins, so far with no  success.

I noticed K0JEG says it is necessary to turn off the serial console mode for this to work, but I don't understand this bit:
if I turn off the serial interface in the RaspPi Config GUI, then the UART disappears as an option from the CAT software. Or have I got this all wrong?

I think I have this sorted:  the GUI version of the RaspPi config utility turns the whole UART off it seems, but running config from the command line gives the option of turning the console function off, but leaving the UART running. 

Although the comms seems to be working, I still have not got it functioning with the TS-850, so still some work to do here.....

Sorted.  I think I had a duff opto-isolator to start with, so sent off in a bit of a wild goose chase.

Anyhow, I now have a working CAT interface to my TS-850, running from the Raspberry Pi UART connections on the GPIO pins. Just two optos and 4 resistors, self powered from each side. Nice and simple.
